For the Sun Belt Conference? They will balk at the idea of Liberty and New Mexico State. If I were SBC? I would approach Missouri State and James Madison again. I do think Missouri State will accept the invite today which could kill MVC even more, and if James Madison still refuses waiting for a C-USA invite? I would go with Eastern Kentucky or check with Chattanooga again.

It has been stated a thousand times already that Georgia Southern and Appalachian State would not like to be separated. James Madison has burnt to many SBC bridges, Missouri State has the best shot of the others. Why spend $4 million to go to a conference that makes less money than where stAte and GS are now?

I can see where Texas State and Georgia State would feel compelled to move to CUSA. Texas State to be with its Texas brothers and GSU to be with Charlotte, ODU, UAB.

Then in addition have NMSU move to CUSA West and UMass to CUSA East. That would boost both divisions back to 9.

SBC then could stay at 8/10 split or bring in EKU/Liberty who would both do it in a heartbeat.

For JMU I'm afraid the ship to FBS has sailed.

What would happen if every SBC school absolutely refused to merge with CUSA, would we be kicked out of the G5?

The gravitational pull of CUSA's travel costs will compel the Sun Belt schools to solve the CUSA schools' problems for them.

I have to say that I see absolutely no reason, at least financial reason, for any SBC school to leave for C-USA. The only possible reason would be for a preferred association such as Texas St wanting to be with the 4 Texas schools in C-USA. NMSU would join because they are about to be homeless for football. CC might prefer being with Charlotte and ODU but I certainly don't know that for sure. The rest I doubt have any interest or reason to move. And from the C-USA point of view, I can't imagine wanting to have more than the current 14.

well lets do the math, one for them doubling, and one for dividing in half.
0 times 2=0
0 divided by 2 =0

CUSA East and CUSA West divisions are not actually that bad, outside of UAB's desire to be in the east.

The problem is there is a huge gap of geography between the two that when the play against each other it looks dumb. Combine that with the fact that virtually the entire Sunbelt conference falls geographically in between CUSA East and CUSA West, it is easy to understand why the reorganization threads pop up. If you are a Texas school, why is your interdivisional matchup a school in West Virginia when it could be a school in Alabama with some minor cooperation.

Could've worked without the F_U's:

East
ODU
UNCC
UAB
MTSU
WKU
Marshall

West
UTEP
UTSA
UNT
Rice
LT
USM

If that were C-USA's lineup, nobody would be talking about mergers/etc.

You're looking at this from a purely football perspective while the merger is about Olympic sports. Unless you play all sports within the division (which you can't) ODU, Marshall, UNCC still have to send a bunch of teams to UTEP, UTSA, Rice, N Texas ect. Those are the budget killers.

CUSA should play intra division round robin as much as possible for non revenue sports to minimize interdivisonal travel
