RE: Siddle Interim Head Coach
We could do a lot worse I'll tell you that. He came off great in interviews when Coach K was too mad to give an interview when we would lose on occassion. He might be the best fit who know's?

I'm not sure how qualified many on this board (especially me) are to judge whether Siddle is 'ready' or not.

It is true that he is young, has no head coaching experience, etc. But that has been the case with Brad Stevens and others...so who knows?

The thing that doesn't seem to work out well very often is when mid-majors become the fall-back job for a high-major coach who has been bounced. There is a world of talent out there outside of the re-tread world. Jimmy Bass proved that with Keatts (maybe too well!).

I'm not qualified to judge Siddle's qualifications either. Maybe he's the guy, but it would feel like the Moss hire to me.

RE: Siddle Interim Head Coach
I've come around to thinking he should be our next head coach.

1. Any new coach is going to have a tough act to folloW after Keatts. And to get an assistant from a major program or a current HC, it's going to be almost impossible to live up to the past 3 years. Which means it's going to be hard to maintain this level of success and keep the fans happy. It also means we're going to have to pay a lot for a good coach to take the risk. Siddle would probably sign for 230k and be thrilled.

2. The odds for akeeping our current players and recruits is much greater if he and the current staff remian the same. If we can keep Cacock and Bryce for 2 more years, and the players we have coming in, we should be pretty good for at least 2 more years. That would mean 5 years of sustained success.

3. Sign a 3 year deal with bonuses. If we keep on track, great. But if afget 2 years we see we've made a mistake, move on and the buyout would be minimal. Two to three years at the lower salary would put us in great financial shape for the next hire.

4. Siddle has been with Keatts for 3 years. He knows how we practiced, planned, recruited, prepared, scouted and related to players, alumni, donors, fans and how to be successful. He would also have the same staff in place to prepare in the same manner.
5. Keatts would be available to Siddle in the same way Pitino was to Keatts. He could send recruits our way below ACC level, and be a phone call away to advise Siddle.

6. Siddle did have one year as a coach at Hargrave, so that connection would to remain intact.

I see this as a smart move overall. If things work out we could have long term su cess with a,young coach. If not, we can move on and be in a position where a brand new coach and staff can come on board wit out such huge expectations.

Hmmm. Why?

Craig Ponder endorsed Siddle for head coach on twitter. I don't know enough to know whether he is ready or not.

Do you actually know something about him that you think makes him not yet qualified? If so, what?

Thanks for posting this. I'm starting to feel the same. Especially since it's been days and our AD and crew "who saw this coming months ago and started preparing" haven't so much as peeped. It makes me feel like they knew it would happen but probably not this year and weren't quite as prepared as they are selling.

Those are all very good reasons to go with young Siddle. Put in a stipulation that he brings Blizzard on too.

I disagree with this. For starters, I think the Athletic Dept has done a great job not leaking anything to the press. The fact that no one really knows who we're going to hire is a good thing in my book.

Second, we don't know that our next HC won't come from a team still in the NCAA Tournament, or one that only got bounced yesterday.

Third, it's not like we've been missing out on any great names by not hiring someone yet.

Fourth, it's only been 3 days, and part of that time has been a weekend. I really don't think 3 days of quiet means we don't have a plan in place.

Siddle very well could end up being the guy. But it would be silly to make that call now if he isn't the bonafide # 1 choice. Cast a wide net and then narrow it over time. The right types of coaches are going to look at us as a solid destination, and it's OK to keep people waiting for a bit.

Just my feeling, but another good coach and him on the bench for 3 more years, he could be the guy IMO.

Fair enough. I do feel like I remember talk of Keatts being our guy when Louisville was still playing and we waited until they were out to announce it.

I feel ya though.

Probably. Figured I'd be first to be impatient. Before it's cool and all.

I stayed on that pulse of that too, and i don't remember him being mentioned much. Honestly, i feel like his name came out of left field .

Without looking it up, anyone know how old Pitino was when he took his first head coaching job at Boston University and then took them to their first NCAA appearance in 24 years?

Without looking it up, I know he was young.

SO, 82Hawk, how young was he?

He was 25 and was there for 4-5 years before going to the Knicks.
