Happy St Paddy's Day
from a half Irishman.

(But as half German, I get the entire month of October to celebrate.)

Saint Patrick, a boy taken as a slave by the Celtic pegans, who would escape and follow the calling of the Lord.... Bringing Christianity to Ireland.

A little more texture to the story...Patricius was actually a Roman child, around age 16, living in then Britannia when he was indeed captured by celts and taken to Ireland as a slave where he herded sheep on a farm.

He escaped I think at around age 22-24 and traveled in the shadows to the shore and stole away on a ship to get back to Britannia.

He returned to Ireland as a missionary to convert the celts since he knew their language and understood their ways.

By the way, he did not drive snakes out of Ireland. There never were snakes in Ireland.

Erin go Bragh from this half Irish lassie!

How much Irish does one need to say that they're Irish? When y'all say that you're "half Irish" does that mean that you're literally 1/2, like mom or dad came over from Ireland? I'm just curious. It's pretty cool how the Irish have spread so far. It's been my experience that almost everybody claims some Irish in America, including myself. I have a couple several generations back. My mother in law's maiden name is an Irish name so there's some on that side too. I can physically see a little Irish in my son.

Well I didn't run it through one of those genetic DNA tests but I base it on my mother's ancestry being a solid line from immigrants from Ireland. There are still distant relatives living in Ireland.

I'd be willing to bet that the line can be traced back at least to 1800.

My father was born in Alsace, and I've met a cousin who still lives there and who has a remarkable resemblance to one of my brothers.

My mother is 100% Irish tracing her roots back to county Cork her ancestors coming over in 1850 during the blight. She even has the red hair and green eyes to boot.

Scots are just Irish who left and settled Northern Britannia. That's why they share similar names and traditions.

There is a theory that the red hair is a trait that came from the Vikings during the raping and pillaging days. So you might be a descendant of Ragnar Lothbrok.

The Irish make whiskey; the Scots make whisky.

If I get ancestry DNA test done and Scandinavia comes up as part of my heritage it will confirm that I am the distant spawn of Ragnar.
