I know one way to do it is with student fees, but I want to say one of you guys said it was against Mississippi state law to do that, so what are some other ways to increase the budget?

I don't recall there being a law against it. I believe that was in reference to stadium naming rights. I think it was mentioned that student fees can be raised but it has to be voted on by the student body. I could totally be wrong about all of this though.

I'm not allocating that we do this, but the most effective way would be to whore out our football program. Play all our non-conference games at the homes of the highest bidders. We'd pull in several extra million per year. This would certainly be more financially beneficial than playing home & homes with UL-Monroe.

No law against student fees to support athletics. USM students already pay an activities fee that is somewhere around $180. It could be increased but everyone from students to the IHL would jump up and down. I believe state law prohibits the use of state appropriations to support athletics. Even so, the plans are to reduce state appropriations for higher education for the next several years. It will hurt other areas of the university's operations, which will make increasing a student activities fee even more difficult.

I don't think the students would care too much if that went up, say, 50%. Most of them are financing their education anyway. $90 / year is not something you worry about when you're incurring loans that will take years to pay off.

anyway you slice it, we're screwed long term unless we can mimic LA or similar law structure in the next couple of years...

Students were up in arms just six years ago that there was even a few toward athletics (well, some students were...most were fine with it). Y'all remember the band guy fighting to stop those fees? I do. Was ridiculous.
