Rumors have the Illini offering Tony Bennett $4.8 million/year to leave Virginia!

Must be nice to be in a big conference, and be able to do what you want, even in a broke state.

There is no way on Gods green earth Bennett would ever leave Virginia for the train wreck that is Illinois. Demotions are not a good thing to do voluntarily

You basically assure your coaching career is over by going to Illinois, I don't think that money can speak that loudly

NIU doesn't hate Montgomery yet. That and it's hard to go from big time head coaching, to small time.

NIU is just being held hostage by 2 coaching contracts. They have no choice given the financial situations to wait and rebuild the basketball and football programs until those contracts run out.

There you go again with the stupid over reactions. Illinois is still a prime spot for basketball and they can be a consistent top 25 team with the right coach.

Bill Self??? I'm no fan of Illinois either, but it's definitely a prime spot for a basketball coach. They have tons of money, top academics, decent basketball history, BIG10 is a top basketball conference, and most importantly - Chicago arguably produces the top basketball recruits year after year. Definitely attractive to coaches. I bet they land somebody big. This new AD is going for splash hires, i.e.) Lovie Smith

There's no use providing facts to him. He is dead set on every ridiculous opinion he has.

Lon Kruger, Bill Self, and Bruce Weber are all making millions of dollars coaching basketball in the Big 12.

NIU basketball has been dead since the 90s. Even then it was close to Walking Dead standards.

If any other school was offering a coach 4,000,000 dollars MD wouldn't say a word. He's insane.

The Illini program has went down the terlet since then. I just don't see them being able to dig out of it. Seems like any coach who goes there now in football and basketball might want to be sure there are good retirement homes in Champaign area.
