RE: Reason why Tubby was chosen?
Can't say I was a big fan on the end of the season.

It's not doom and gloom though. We finished about where most of us thought we would. But, I have to admit I was pleasantly surprised until the last month of the season and then we imploded. But, I'll also say that our team wasn't very good either. We had no bulk and just got pounded.

So why was Tubby hired? First of all, we couldn't get a A+ hire like Marshall. I think the money guys thought Tubby would provide some stability and a known face of the program ( hoping for Big 12). I think he will stabilize the program. We need to be in decent shape to hire a great coach. We all love the program but it just isn't the brand we tend to think it is. We couldn't get a great hire after Cal left. Or last year when Pastner left. We offered some of the sought after coaches and ended up empty handed again. I'm not going to say that we couldn't of landed a Forbes type guy, I have no doubt that we could have. They just decided to go into a safer direction. He's had one year with a few good pieces, but in no way was that a complete team.

Sounds like Chad is gone, which I don't think is a big loss of talent. Hopefully, Tubby will do a much better job of getting grad transfers or jucos to bolster next years team. As manny fairly said, he really seem to blow that off last year.

I still think we'll be good in a couple of years. Not expecting much next year

More Tubby-bashing. How nice. No one knows yet if this was a "bad hire" or not. Yet there are plenty in the fan base who are ready to cut bait because this team didn't go undefeated.

Please. Can we wake up?

While I am certainly in the "wait and see" camp, claiming the fanbase expected us to go undefeated is silly. We got our azzes kicked at the end of the season. There's no way to spin it.

Yep. He worked really hard at destroying our program, sure enough usher man. He worked his azz off to achieve that astounding record against the top 25. You liked him working his azz off, gee that's special. You can always become a yellow jacket fan and watch him work his azz off. 03-lmfao

Because people who really don't care about basketball though it would be cool to have a coach who won a championship twenty years ago.

On the surface, that sounds right to us. Like it fits. But we're paying a top 25 salary, and we're investing in the new hoops facility - prioritized over the IPF. So I'm not sure that is accurate.

I think it was safe from a NCAA and B12 perspective, while we were focusing on that. And he is a proven winner with a NC ring. Finally, he's the anti-Pastner. Checked a lot of the boxes at the time.

May have underestimated the restlessness of fans, and the state of recruiting in this modern era. We will see.

Yeah. Had we known we wouldn't make the cut, we could've hired any slimeball we wanted to be our coach. Wasted opportunities.

RE: Reason why Tubby was chosen?
I tend to agree with a couple of the posters here. I think after not getting a big desirable fish to bite, they went with a hire that didn't need adult supervision like we had the previous 7 years. Basically Bowen was tired of having to clean up the messes (like all the transfer drama every year and the scheduling details and other such pains) of his fledgling basketball coach. Hiring Tubby relieved him of those duties to focus his efforts on football and the Big 12 chase.

Now to address the team that took the floor, I think Tubby decided to take a chance to evaluate the players he had and how they react under pressure and how they take to his coaching style and such, since it was a honeymoon season anyway. I also figure (just a guess on my part) that he didn't take too much to having to take Keelon as part of the deal. So he wanted to see if the ends justified the means. I think that as the season wore on, he saw that maybe they weren't his cup of tea, from a skills or tolerance fit. Having no bench depth to put in when the team started going south (his own doing, I know...) or to sit someone that needed straightened out, all he could do is watch.

I'm in the "let him do it his way" camp, even if it takes 2 or 3 years to get there. Unfortunately, a lot of our fan base is of the instant gratification mindset, so they will be all pissed off about it until they get their way. Here's hoping Tubby rights the ship in a couple of years, retires and we have a program that once again can attract the kind of coach most around here are screaming for.

RE: Reason why Tubby was chosen?
There's a mixed bag of reasons Tiger fans don't like what they see with no big wins or post season play this year and 3-star recruits coming in next year. One of them is recent experience winning big games and playing in the post season. We don't have any.

We haven't beaten an AP Top 25 team or gone to post season play in three years. The last time we did, we had two 5-star players and six 4-stars on the team (before all the transfers) and went 5 for 11 vs the Top 25. So naturally, those kinds of things stick in your mind -- lots of stars are needed for big wins and post season invitations.

TTU went 3 of 11 vs the Top 25 last year and went dancing. They may have had a 4-star, I'm not sure. The two previous years, Tubby's first two there, didn't look so good. It took that long to see results. But that's someone else's recent history, and not everybody is capable of applying that situation to ours, even though we're talking about the same coach and staff.

The transfer rules have changed the face of the game. Losing players to transfer has NOT stopped since the new hire. Orlando has lost two and has barely been here a year. Not counting losing a top recruit already committed to the program. So the so called "mes" you talk about is still here.

The only problem he had with having to take Keelon is that it made him have to shuffle things around in order to get his own son on the staff. Let's see should i choose between a coach who has proven himself by winning a state title and who has connections to several high quality local players including his four sons who are all top 50 players. Or do i hire my own son whose only news worthy event was a drunk driving conviction.

Since you cannot get out of the past then let's look at it. We got rid of someone who has NEVER lost three games in a row no matter how many injuries and who has TWICE swept the defending National Champion. For someone who has not finished above .500 in conference since leaving UK. One who has not only lost FIVE in a row but lost 6 out of last 7 games and lost the last two games by a total of 71 points. While having to deal with a single injury which caused a player to miss significant playing time. All of this while playing one of the weakest schedules the Tigers have had in 10 years.

Statistical data has shown NO improvement over the past two years and in many ways have seen a step backwards. All with 3 FOUR star players and 2 THREE star in the starting lineup. Whose best recruit so far would be consider a class filling 4 year prospect from previous years.

Senior night attendance last year was at 84% capacity. This year 51%. Final 2 home games last year 79.5% of capacity. This year 59.5%.
