I've heard that Finch thought that 88 team may have been the best he ever had were it not for Alexander and Gray being ruled ineligible.

Marvin Alexander
Sylvester Gray
Rodney Douglas
Dwight Boyd
Elliot Perry

DeWayne Bailey
Steve Ballard
Brett Mundt
John McLaughlin
Cheyenne Gibson
Russell Young
Ronald McClain

Finch's best coaching job winning a game in the tourney after losing Gray and Alexander.

He really had some bad luck while he was coach.

I don't remember EP ever phoning in a game. It might have happened but I don't think so. I do remember his getting a lot of his points at the free throw line to close out games. I'll bet he shot 95% from the line in the last two minutes.

Not a bad bunch -- with the front court intact. I remember some opposing (losing) coach griping about "those two wrestlers."

For 1988 standards it was really good.

Bench had a lot of size and shooting.

Starting lineup was unique and had experience - least experienced player was maybe the best in EP.

Would've been interesting to see that team come March.

It was a heartbreaker. One of Sylvester's favorite moves was driving across the lane, jumping (like a long jump), and shooting a little one-hander off the glass as he went by the basket. I remember at the time thinking it wasn't that big a deal, but I've never seen anybody do it since. Most people pull up. He just kept gliding across.

I don't think Cheyenne was on that team. Prop 48 I believe

I always loved how Gray suddenly shrunk from 6-6 to 6-4 1/2 when he played for the Rockers
