TSSAA screwed over East
They should be embarrassed not allowing East to play in New York in the Dick's Sporting Goods national tournament. Sucks to not give those kids a great opportunity to play in NY.

Memphis penalty...
No doubt if East were in Nashville, the decision would have been different.

If they were BRentwood, they would have made the Memphis schools pay their way.

RE: TSSAA screwed over East
I emailed the following to the TSSA at tssaa@tssa.org

I find it regrettable that the TSSAA would restrict the Memphis East High school basketball team from competing in Dicks nationals basketball tournament. It is an honor for a team to qualify for a position in this tourney and it brings great visibility for basketball in the state of Tennessee and the TSSAA. The tournament is scheduled so that the athletes will miss minimal educational time.

I also find it regrettable that the TSSAA is so shortsighted in their antiquated thinking as to deny these athletes an opportunity to represent their state in a competition that will be nationally televised.

http://dicksnationals.com/

I have no ties to the Memphis East High School basketball program. I couldn't even name a single athlete on the team but I do know that these young men should be allowed to represent their school, city and state in this prestigious tournament. It is a once in a lifetime opportunity for many who mostly come from underprivileged backgrounds. Many of these young men will never again get the opportunity to participate in something they would be able to tell to their grandkids.

I ask that the TSSAA reconsider their decision to deny these young men the opportunity to add something positive to their lives.

You sold me, FWIW.
Well stated and logically structured, yet still respectful.
I don't know anything about the situation regarding the decision, but you stated the case effectively in an economy of words. Maybe it'll have an effect.

RE: TSSAA screwed over East
What is the reasoning behind them not being allowed to play? Is it about a lack of funds, or that they would miss too much school?

TSSAA has a rule of no games after conclusion of season (or something like that).

Yep

These high schoolers get way too much pub at an early age anyway. Plus Penny might have a golf tournament that week.

Nope.

Did they follow the rules in the ruling? Yes. Was it the right decision, NO.
