Some and probably most of those kids have probably never been out of Memphis. NYC is an experience that they would never forget. l remember being overjoyed to go to Nashville for our state track championship, staying at a motel for the first time, swimming in the motel pool, etc. etc. I also remember my first trip to NYC as an adult and it was inspiring just to be on 5th Ave, seeing the skyscrapers, Radio City Music Hall, etc. etc.
Yes the TSSAA has cheated these kids out of something they worked hard for and deserved. If I were rich I think I would send them all for a long week-end just so they could have the experience of NYC even without the basketball experience.
Again the key word people are using is NEVER...These kids will NEVER have a chance to go to NYC...I say that is a silly statement.
Sadly, most of them won't. If your argument is 1 or 2 may get to go at some point in their lives, ok. Maybe.
Odds are, unless their playin bb at a high level, or wind up getting a college degree, they'll not get to go. This IS most of those kids, I'd bet.
Yep. I'm not sure if macgar quite understands what reality is for a lot of these kids.
There is a difference between trying to go and doing what it takes to get there than being given a trip...Yes that is true.
But many of these kids probably will have other priorities in adulthood that they put higher than going to NYC...I can agree with that.

WHAT WOULD HAPPEN IF THEY JUST WENT AND PLAYED ? MAYBE A BAN NEXT YEAR . THE RULE SHOULD PROBABLY BE CHANGED OR MOVED TO A LATER NATIONAL DATE SO ALL KIDS COULD PLAY FOR A N.C..

Shoe companies have been fighting this for years
Sonny had me talking to Ronnie Carter over 10 years ago
It's not going to happen

East vs Oak Ridge today ... Oak Ridge has a nice record but it doesn't look like they've played much competition, although they had a nice quarterfinal win over Brentwood.

I don't see why the players who comprise the East team just can't go as the "Memphis Mustangs" or something like that.
I'm sure whoever would have paid the bill for them to go as "East High School" would still do the same.

Maybe they could all wear masks too. I can hear the introductions now,
Starting at PG, The AL Express
at SG, El Balancesto Dios
at SF, El pelicula desticada humana
at PF and C, from parts unknown, Assassin I and Assassin 2

I like it. Maybe the losing team's head coach will have to have his wife's head shaved.
Can La Parka be the head coach?

They have a rule that after the TSSAA season a summer or AAU team is supposed to have only 3 players from a HS team. This prevents HS coaches playing their teams tegether year around.

Gotcha. Thanks for the clarification.
Couldn't they just be some "pickup" team that happens to travel to NY to ball?

Yep. I think American Legion summer baseball does the same, although the number of players may be different.

Knowing Memphis and the summer scene they would be snitched on
Plus some of that event is televised

Those rules don't apply to schools from other states?

It varies state to state
Plus some of these teams aren't recognized by their state associations
Like Hamilton Heights
