Girls Indiana All-Stars announced
The 13-player girls IndyStar Indiana All-Star roster features four players who have played on a state championship team.
The Homestead duo of Karissa McLaughlin and Madisen Parker led the Spartans to the program’s first state championship this season. Homestead finished 28-2 with a 61-54 win over Pike in the Class 4A title game.
Nicole Konieczny led South Bend St. Joseph to the 3A state championship last month, the second for the Indians. Maliah Howard-Bass of Columbus North was a starter as a sophomore on the Bull Dogs’ 3A state title team in 2015 and played for another state title as a junior.
“We have a lot of girls on this team who know how to win,” Indiana All-Star game director Charlie Hall said. “That’s a big deal. We’re not overly tall. In fact, this might be the smallest team we’ve had in my nine years. But we do have a lot of versatility.”
The Indiana All-Stars will look to extend their seven-game winning streak over Kentucky when the teams meet in June. The first game will be played at Bankers Life Fieldhouse on June 10 (girls game at 5 p.m.) and the second game on June 11 at Central Hardin High School in Elizabethtown, Ky. (girls game at 1 p.m.). Plainfield’s Curt Benge will coach the team.
Riley Blackwell, Plainfield
The 6-1 Blackwell missed eight games due to injury, but averaged a team-leading 15.1 points and 6.2 rebounds to help the Quakers to an 18-7 record. She is headed to Northern Illinois.
Among the other dozen, one signee for: Iowa State, Louisville, DePaul, Indiana State, Akron, Ball State, Bowling Green State, IUPUI, Valparaiso, Northern Kentucky
