ACC goes 6-3. Not real impressive. The #1-5 seeds were 6-0. That's solid as we had two 5 seeds which are commonly upset. However, our 8, 9, and 11 seeds lost 8/9, 8/9, and 11/11 "toss-ups". I'm unsure if the six remaining teams should be concerned that the middle of the league struggled or if it won't relate to deep runs by the elite teams.

I'm obviously a homer for VT, but I think we had the toughest first round draw and performed well against a Wisconsin team that probably should have been seeded higher than #8. And while the line says we lost by 10, the game was much closer than that.

How are your brackets doing?

I missed 7 so far, including first 4, with Miami being my only loss beyond the second round. I'm perfect in the South & my only miss in the West was VCU. I had Rhode Island winning as well.

Elite 8 picks?

I have Duke beating Villanova, Arizona beating ND, Louisville beating Iowa State & UCLA beating North Carolina.

Not really a great start for the ACC so far. 0-2 verses the B1G & 0-1 verses the B12. Our 6 wins are against 12, 14, 15 & 16 seeds. All of our second round games are against power conference teams. The PAC is 5-0 but their best win is against 6 SMU. B12 is 5-2 but their best win is against WF. The SEC is 4-1 while beating 2 Big East teams. The BE went 3-4 but have a win over 6 Maryland.

RE: Open Thread- NCAA Tournament
Records so far for the P5 conferences:

PAC 5-0
SEC 4-1
B1G 5-2
B12 5-2
ACC 6-3

Of the 8 total P5 losses, 5 were to other P5 teams, leaving their record against all other schools at 20-3.

The three losses were: Xavier (Maryland), MTSU (Minnesota) and Cincy (K State).

The wins by Cincy and MTSU were the only wins for the G5 conferences. They also posted 4 losses.

Four mid-major* conferences (including Big East, A-10, MVC and WCC) were a combined 7-6, with the BE going 3-4.

* For this purpose only, I have defined "mid-major" to be non-FBS football conferences that typically get more than the one auto bid to the NCAAT.

The other 18 conferences were a combined 2-18, with their only wins coming in the play-in games.

So far the ACC has been a little underwhelming. I will be cheering on the rest of the conference and hope they fair better then us.

So far, chalk has been holding. We only had four teams seeded to advance past this weekend. Virginia has the other #4 vs #5 matchup, and Florida will be a tough out.

First big upset. #8 Wisconsin takes down #1 Villanova. No repeat champs.

That opens up the East a bit for #2 Duke and #5 UVA if they can win this weekend. Nova would have been the likely Sweet 16 (UVA) and Elite 8 opponent (Duke).

FSU down by 10 at halftime. Not looking good for the ACC. Notre Dame losing to WVU was bad enough. Coming into today, the game I was worried most about was the UVA game. Now they may be our only win of the day.

Quite an underwhelming performance thus far. The league is 0-3 as an equal or lower seed. The ACC is 6-2 as the higher seed, with the best win being either UNCW or Princeton. The league is 0-5 vs teams from the power 6 conferences (losses to K State, Wisconsin, Mich St, WVU, & Xavier)

The ACC has gone beyond underwhelming now. Miami losing by 20. FSU losing by 25 to Xavier! Virginia losing by 26 to Florida! Already 6 of 9 not making it past the first weekend with 3 games still to go.

What's up with ACC teams getting run out of the building like that? UVA couldn't score 40 point? This was an epic collapse for almost an entire side of the bracket... no teams alive in the West, and one each in the other 3 regions.

1 thing that sticks out to me is shooting. For the most part these teams have struggled while their opponents have been above their average. Louisville struggled shooting the ball in their first game as well & was prime for an upset as Jacksonville also shot above their average but was able to perceiver against a lesser opponent. Another is PARITY. Even the 10, 11 & 12 seeds are now good.

It's gonna be up to the flagships to carry the day - North Carolina and Duke.
