Open Thread- NCAA Tournament
Mt St Mary's beats New Orleans 67-66 to open play in Dayton. The game featured two of the three shortest players in D1. UNO started a 5'8" guard, and The Mount starts a 5'5" guard who led the game with 23 points.

UNO's coach has to regret his late game decision. UNO cut it to a 1 point deficit with 34 seconds left. He opted to play defense straight up rather than fouling. The Mount ran the shot clock down and missed a shot. UNO got the rebound but was forced to try and go the length of the court in 2.9 seconds. Puzzling decision.

If Wake played just a little bit of D they'd be a really good team.

The Deacs looked good at times. There just weren't enough good times...

Most didn't think KSU would outgun Wake but that's what happened. You can't win when you allow the opponent to shoot 81% for the game on 2 point field goals.

Notre Dame survives Princeton - I knew Princeton was good, but that was closer than I expected.

UVA survives against UNC Wilmington.

That's two ACC teams advancing already today. Hopefully FSU and Virginia Tech make it four!

Open Thread- NCAA Tournament
A little tournament trivia. Since the NCAA tournament expanded in 1985 only 5 teams have won their conference regular season championship, conference tournament championship & the national championship.

1985-86 Louisville Cardinals (Metro)

1991-92 Duke (ACC)

1997-98 Kentucky (SEC)

1998-99 UCONN (Big East)

2006-07 Florida (SEC)

Kentucky & Florida won their division (best conference record)

Dang. Hokies were within striking distance of Wisconsin at the end, just couldn't get over the hump. Yet again, lack of size allowed too many offensive rebounds.

Really proud of this team though, they never quit even despite the adversity of losing one of their best players and running with a 7 man rotation. Buzz has brought basketball back to Blacksburg and the future looks extremely bright at Virginia Tech.

Cards played poorly the first 15 minutes but win 78-63. Would have won by 25 at least if Jax St hadn't made 3's they've never made before. They had a guy who's 8-32 from deep all season make 5-5. Insane odds and they also banked in a pure luck 3 to avoid a major blowout.

On to Michigan.

Sorry VT was only good for one NCAA unit this year, but at least that's up from last year!

UNC destroys Texas Southern by 39. ACC 5-2 with Duke and Miami remaining. If Duke wins, it's be nice to have Miami win as well so we split the league's two 8/9 toss-ups.

On to Michigan.

I was really hoping for a blowout when I learned that Ray Harper was there coach.

Sparty started trying, so Miami quit. Maybe they thought they were in El Paso

RE: Open Thread- NCAA Tournament
What a pitiful effort from Miami. The Canes ran out to a 19-8 lead. From that point forward they were outscored 70-39 by a mediocre MSU club.

ACC goes 6-3. Not real impressive. The #1-5 seeds were 6-0. That's solid as we had two 5 seeds which are commonly upset. However, our 8, 9, and 11 seeds lost 8/9, 8/9, and 11/11 "toss-ups". I'm unsure if the six remaining teams should be concerned that the middle of the league struggled or if it won't relate to deep runs by the elite teams.

It's Michigan State in the tournament, there's absolutely no shame for Miami.

Disagree. No shame if they were competitive. They were blown out of the gym by the worst MSU team in years.
