And we are fairly isolated with only 2 countries on our physical borders and massive oceans on each side.

Got to start somewhere. now lets see the Education, Energy, Labor, EPA, OSHA, Interior, and HHS budgets receive a similar haircut.

...it's a bad idea to use military force to achieve every single victory in foreign policy. If you act like a pit bull 24/7, then in due time you will eventually be put down as such.

We could probably cut close to 37% from every department in the federal budget by simply cutting useless administrative overhead, without impacting a single program materially. That's how bloated things are at the top. When the three counties with the highest average household income are in the DC metro area, and 7 of the top 12, you get some idea of how much we are overpaying useless layers of bureaucracy to sit on their asses as do nothing in DC. You'd kill real estate prices in northern Virginia for a generation, but it would be worth it.

I might actually consider moving that way if real estate plummets and I can afford a single family home near a Metro like Vienna or Falls Church. I could get a high paying job there in about 5 minutes and I actually like DC insofar as the climate and having as much to do in leisure time as any city without the nastiness and crowds of somewhere like NYC or Chicago.

I wasn't kidding in my "shopping for real estate" if this can possibly, please, happen.

I'm 80 miles south, grew up up there and would dump the 4 properties I have now and look there in a heartbeat.

Even if it took years and years, nothing could be better than returning that entire REGION to "normal" people. It's become enclaves of paper pushers and overpriced "professionals", lawyers, lobbyists, consultants and the like. Not much room for the tow truck driver or small eatery folks anymore. That's who I grew up with.
