2017 Preseason Football Discussion
Connelly came out with his ODU preview; which is by far the best one that you will read every year. Last year he mentioned ODU should be much improved while many ODU fans were still licking wounds of the previous season. I love the headline:

Old Dominion football improves annually, so what’s next after 2016’s breakthrough?

http://www.sbnation.com/college-football...ule-roster

He wisely points out its going to depend almost entirely on how the QB performs. Also, we should play in more close games next year so it will depend on luck.

Albany/Charlotte/Rice should be wins.
UNC/VT/WKY should be losses (though I'm skeptical of WKY)

Thus, the record comes down to:

@UMASS
FAU
@Marshall
@North Texas
@FIU
@MT

We actually may be a better team and still finish with more losses. 7-8 wins would probably be a good season. [/align]

Thats a lot of @ symbols. I'd be happy with 7 wins.

Unless we get some lucky breaks that have us in the championship game, I'm thinking 7 wins and another appearance in a low-level bowl game. A bit too early for me to be optimistic

If our QB is middle of the pack in the conference, we should have no more than 4 losses.

RE: 2017 Preseason Football Discussion
If we can shore up at LB we will have a stout defense.

Barring any surprises (read injuries) at OL we should be OK on both pass protection and run blocking. We will have the best tandem of RBs in the conference.

Zach Pascal will be very difficult to replace, but we have good depth and size at WR.

Obviously the big question mark is at QB.

This will be a "peak" year for us. Had everything gone according to plan, we would be a formidable program. Part of this "master plan" had Shuler Bentley peaking at this time as well.

UNC and VT are probably top 25. this upcoming season. I am surprised that we scheduled two P5s in one season.

Having said all of that, we lose to both, but IF the QB situations works itself out, we should be competitive with every other team on our schedule, including WKU.

Pretty much what Gilesfan said above.

If we struggle at QB, and/or have a few bad bounces...
Otherwise we should go 8-4, maybe even 9-3

Need a good Qb and to avoid injuries against those 2 P5s. If that happens we should be bowling

WK loses their coach and a lot of talent (both star WRs, star LB, star OL, etc). They will still be very good, but I think they take a step back. It will be a competitive game in Norfolk.

After reading the write-up, wonder why the win projection is 54% against us in Amherst ?

They project us to be the 93rd best team; you guys to be 111. So factoring home field, there you go....

Dr. Chandler- why is the Athletic Department whiffing on a chance to build excitement about the program(s). A guided tour of both the football facility and basketball training facility seems like a no brainer. Plenty of ODAF fans and I'm sure general fans would enjoy seeing where some of their money goes.
How about it??

Ya I just don't get it we spend millions on a practice facility but ODU wants to keep it hush. Doesn't make any sense.
