Many of the ESPN experts really talked Wake up before the tournament. Maybe it was an off night but that is a horrific defensive squad. UC beats them easy most nights. I do think K St. will give UC a decent test but I didn't see anything that worries me.

Interesting article on why we won't see as many bracket busters going forward.

This article should probably have it's own thread. But my immediate reaction is that I have no interest in reading about coaches bitching about players coming and going. As soon as coaches start agreeing that coaches cannot go anywhere if bigger schools come calling then I'll be on board with not allowing players to move. Guys like Cane Broome have a better shot at playing professionally by getting exposure at UC versus Sacred Heart. If the coaches care about the players at all then they realize it's a better opportunity for the player and they should be supportive.

Of course they did. ESPN and the ACC have been tied at the hip for over 30 years-- maybe now more than ever.

Edit: Case in point, Duke Vitale predicted not only Wake Forest to win the play-in game last night, he picked them over UC as well. His final four includes 3 ACC schools, with the Tar Heels winning it all.

Shocking that he did not announce Duke as the winning in PBA Style hollering "DAH DUKKIES DAH DULLIES"

I think the hidden reason we will not see as many small conference bracket busters this year is the committee matched so many of them up against one another. Cuts the available pool in half before the weekend.

Their 160 adjusted defense rating says it wasn't an of night; they're as miserable a defensive team as they looked.

Wake is mostly Collins scoring, getting rebounds and getting fouled. They would have been the far easier matchup of the two.

See #6.

6. The stupid bank-shot and/or contested threes. The culmination of their stupid shooting and your uncharacteristically awful shooting.
The culmination happens in the second half with six or eight minutes remaining. The lucky-as-hell shooter swaggers like he meant to do it.

Just turn the TV off at that point. Walk out of the arena. Abandon all hope. Fate has spoken.

There is something to be said for momentum as well. KSU has a little right now.

I guess this is somewhat true, but before last night they were 4-6 over their last 10. Their only good win was against Baylor in the Big 12 tourney, where they probably had to win or they were out of the big dance. Two weeks ago they lost by 30 points to 11-20 Oklahoma.

Truth is, outside of a couple of games this year, anybody we were gonna play is better than anyone else on our schedule. We are gonna find out how good these guys are and what we can somewhat expect next year.

Pre tournament jitters. The Cats can't come out tight.

If the stats in reading are correct it looks like KState struggles with defensive rebounding and relies on turnovers to fuel their defense. Both should bode well for UC.

This is correct. The stats show that K State is a pretty poor rebounding team (both O and D) and relies on turning teams over on defense. In addition, they turn the ball over a lot (ranked 230 of 351 in TO%). That plays into UC's hands assuming we play our game.

Also the last two times UC has been a six seed in the NCAA Tournament, they've played an 11 seed from the Big 12. UC is 2-0.

This is a great point and dead on. They are a good matchup for us. What worries me a bit is they are good at denying inside passes... we need to work the ball inside.

We have to play inside out to be effective. Have to get the ball in the post.

This is proof that the selection committee doesn't even look at Kenpom.
