Pulling for conference mates
1 thing I really noticed quickly about moving from SoCon to Sun Belt is now almost universally conference members pull for each other vs any non-conference opponent. That just wasn't true in the SoCon. The feeling that we are all in this together is much stronger here. I hope the Coastal fans see this.

In any postseason play I pull for any Belt team vs whoever. I know during conference seasons, especially in football, the rivalries are there but I have noticed great support for each other in bowls

Pulling for all Sunbelt teams where ever they are in the post-season.

When Little Rock goes to the post-season I always grumble until tip-off and then I start pulling for them.

Sometimes its hard to pull for some of you, but we really are in this thing together.

I think most of us see this and think the same way. It was one of the things that stood out to me as a positive when we were rumored to be in the conversation.

RE: Pulling for conference mates
I dont get the SEC doing it because they are at the top of college athletics, we on the other have a long way to go in perception and on the field. For the foreseeable future it is "together we rise". When one of us gets blown out by 40 it is "oh it was a Sun Belt team". I remember a time when the Sun Belt would get lumped in with FCS as if scheduling either was the same when folks would talk about scheduling. All of us dont have to be Boise but which ever teams are at the top at the time needs to start winning OOC and the bottom needs no FCS losses. We desparatley need to get to .500 OOC to start turning the perception around.

The best thing about the Sun Belt is that all the other schools actually have fans. The reason our rivalry with App got so heavy was partly due to the fact that they were the only other fanbase in the SoCon that even remotely cared.

The Southland was similar. Outside of SHSU and McNeese there wasn't much conversation. SFA had a couple active posters and a couple other schools had maybe one or two. There is much more conversation in this conference.

RE: Pulling for conference mates
I understand the sentiment and agree that we should pull for each other but it doesn't matter who wishes who to victory until fans start buying tickets to support other teams. That would be true conference solidarity, very unrealistic I understand.

Me and some friends made a last minute trip to the SBC Basketball Championship and there were about as many Troy and TXST fans as I expected but there were very few fans from other schools. In fact the only other non Troy or TXST shirt I saw was a Ragin Cajun one. I was hoping to see some UTA or GA State fans at least since those teams played in the Semis.

RE: Pulling for conference mates
I always pull for my conference mates whenever they play OOC even if I do have to hold my nose to do it in a couple of cases. While I think it's unrealistic to expect others to do it I also wouldn't mind buying a ticket to see an SBC team play if I happened to be visiting in one of your cities.

A couple of years ago I was in the Twin Cities area and while I'm no Minnesota fan I still got tickets to one of the games simply for the experience.

I was really looking forward to a bowl in Little Rock. I would have paid to go root for the SBC team if it had become a reality.

I can understand not sticking around for basketball games in New Orleans after you had already lost though. Can't say I would do that either.

There are real stakes now, not just simple pride.

The amount of extra money we got from finishing 3rd in the G5 conference standings instead of fifth is about what we would net from a single money game.

The amount of money we're getting from Georgia State and Little Rock's NCAA tournament wins isn't negligible, either.

I will not pull for Troy against Duke for the sole reason of my Facebook, workplace, local radio stations, etc. blowing up to discuss how Duke choked and UNC reigns....while they conveniently forget they lost to them twice this season.

Even if they did they were smaller than most high schools around me. We had more fans at Wofford for a playoff game at their stadium. I am sure they had a higher than usual turn out but when your enrollment is 1609 you are never going to fill a stadium. I think UTC and WCU just crossed over 10K when we left, I dont think any of the others were over 6K.

We and App were helping there attendance and they not helping at all for ours. Outside of WCU and UTC none had or have any intentions of advancing in size or invest in football more than they do. Which is fine but that was not us.

At least in my area, there is a such thing as SEC pride, your mileage may vary. In Mobile, we have three very highly represented SEC fan bases (Auburn, Bama & LSU) and they DO pull for the other teams in OOC, bowl games, the NCAA's, etc., and they get pissed off when one of them lose. In their cases, they're not cheering for more money per school but for conference bragging rights.

As a TAMU fan (Dad played for The Bear there), I don't feel it because we're still new to the SEC and I didn't necessarily want to see the Aggies join the SEC in the first place, so I generally root against SEC teams. The same holds true for my dad, who's still pissed off about the move.

It's not hard to root for any SBC versus anyone out of conference. Beating each other up will only get respect inside the conf. To get respect for the conf. We must win OOC. To be honest I do like beating you guys up in conf. Good luck to the team's in post season.
