5 MAC teams in the WNIT
Impressive! Wish it was only 4 with CMU in the NCAA.

RE: 5 MAC teams in the WNIT
I don't follow women's basketball, but it seems odd to me that Toledo got the 10th seed as a AQ, however, a 23-8 CMU that finished 3 games better in conference play couldn't get an at-large. Toledo must have had a far superior OOC schedule I'm guessing?

2 pt loss to then #9 UCLA.
~15 loss to Notre Dame.
Won @Dayton.
Only 1 loss to a team with an RPI >100 (Ball St @ 123).
2 win vs. RPI top 50.
7 wins vs. RPI top 100.

That is all well and good but that alone does not tell me much. I need some context for instance how would CMU have fared using these criteria?

Here is the NIT Bracket. But yeah, what I was getting at is I wanted to know how close CMU resume compared to Toledo's

No MAC school is hosting a game in the first round.

RE: 5 MAC teams in the WNIT
Buffalo should have been in... A total snub.

http://www.ubbullrun.com/womens-basketba...m-wnit-bid

Central Michigan was the automatic qualifier for the conference along with at-larges for Ball State (21-10), Ohio (22-9), Northern Illinois (21-11), and even Kent State (19-12).

Also take this list of teams into consideration:

Sacred Heart
UCF
Fordham
Duquesne
Kent State
Ohio
Central Michigan
Ball State

Each of the teams above are in the field of 64 through automatic qualifier or at-large big. Buffalo beat every single one of those teams at least once this season. Also, Duquesne (124), Fordham (132), and Ball State (123) all had lower RPIs than UB’s 98.

They weren't in the talk really because they lost to WMU... you can't lose in the quarters in a mid major conference and get an At Large. Had they lost to Toledo in the finals, they may have been a bubble team. CMU also lost to Notre Dame 107-47. Toledo lost by 17 points.

CMU was 7-6 vs. top 100 rpi. 1 sub 150 loss. Loss to 11 seed Elon by 14.
Toledo was 8-7 vs. top 100 rpi. 0 sub 150 losses. Beat 12 seed @ Dayton by 4.

Toledo had the better resume coming into conference play, only maybe behind Buffalo. UT and CMU split the season series... RPI's were identical.

Shocked at how badly Buffalo got screwed. How do you beat eight teams in the tournament field and have a Top100 RPI and not get in.

7 seed in conference tourney didn't help. 12-9 in conference didn't help. I'm playing devils advocate... its a tourney based on attendance and keeping every conference involved. 6 WNIT teams from a mid major conference... none that will host many games??? I see why its possible they got left out.

That's because Toledo is too busy off dancing. How come not one MAC school ponied up some money to host a first round game? Toledo hosted every single game in its 2011 WNIT championship run, and all the subsequent games in the years later they made the WNIT.

I'm less disappointed about the five MAC teams that got in.. All deserving. It is more like a team like Sacred Heart that we beat by 20 and UCF that we beat and Fordham and Duquesne that we beat, both on the road. It is supposed to be your full body of work, not just conference season

Makes a lot more sense to host when you can pull crowds of 4,000 and less sense when you pull a few hundred to maybe a thousand.

Congrats to our NIU team, it's been a long time since last postseason for them. I'm sure NIU wouldn't spend the money that they really don't have to host a game, especially since we have poor attendance anyway, unfortunately.

I thought about this, too. CMU must have been fairly close to an at-large bid. One problem for a conference like the MAC is that a team has to be good enough to get the invitation even after losing in the conference tournament. I imagine that Central was hurt especially by losing in the first round to a mediocre team. If Central had won the tournament, then they would have been good enough to get an at-large bid, but of course then they wouldn't have needed it. Toledo's 10 seed suggests that the Rockets were good enough for an at-large bid. (At-large Auburn is an 11 seed.) However, if Toledo had lost in the MAC tournament, then the Rockets would no longer have been merited a 10 seed or an at-large bid.

You mentioned that CMU was three games better than Toledo in the conference, but counting the tournament CMU was 15-4, while Toledo was 16-6. Toledo also had a respectable out-of-conference schedule, including a win over RPI 33 Dayton. I have no idea whether the selection committee looks at margin of victory, but if so CMU's 60-point drubbing at Notre Dame couldn't have helped.

CMU must have been fairly close to an at-large bid.

The downside of the Women's NIT not being seeded is we can't tell definitively how close they were.

KSU guard & MAC POY Larissa Lurken just broke a 35 year old NCAA record for free throws made in a season with #276 in Ann Arbor tonight, but the Flashes fell 67-60 to Michigan.

MAC went 0-4 in the WNIT tonight. The conference has had success in this tournament in past years, so this performance is pretty disappointing.
