Josh Williams left Akron, word on the street is Robotham is leaving - and now Dambrot is leaving. Hope they enjoyed never winning a NCAA tournament game because those days are over.

Dunn-Martin too? Dang, I hope Sendy never leaves. Half our team will bolt. I notice Dambrot is offering Collins, Ballantyne...Collins was one I hoped we had a shot at.

I wonder if any of these guys follow him to Duq. Not really sure they're cut out for the A10 but coaches usually love their point guards.

Would John Groce be a fit at Akron?

That probably makes sense... because I can't stand John Groce and I can't stand Akron. Match made in hell.

Their top recruits from this year are bolting. If you're right about the salary, then that makes sense.

Article right now on Ohio.com (Beacon Journal website) states he'll make $1MM per season with a 7 year deal. He was making $600K I think.

RE: Dambrot Leaving??
I must admit that I never saw Dambrot leaving. Didn't Duquesne sniff him out once before? I doubt that the money was that much of a factor. At least not the biggest factor. Dambrot was already very wealthy and set for life. There has to be a bigger reason. I'm guessing that reason is simply that the MAC is not going to be getting more than one bid anytime soon.

If john Groce goes to Akron it would be a near certainty that they would have the best recruiting classes in the MAC but would underachieve.

RE: Dambrot Leaving??
Living in Akron I have friends with access to the programs.
Dambrot left for the following reasons
He wanted a new arena (akron has zero money after the football stadium debacle)
He is upset the MAC is a one bid league (its his own fault that he schedules cupcakes)
His son was playing soccer at Akron but lost playing time and transferred to Pitt. (he was a started but didnt even make the field some games at the end of the season)
He wanted to leave before a wave of transfer hit him (williams is the only confirmed at this time)
He does not have a replacements for Cheatham and Big Dog.

Rumors for transfers-Dunn Martin might follow him. Hughes and Dalton two freshmen should be leaving. Antino Jackson and Utomi might be gone. His Texas pipeline is leaving.

They might make a run at Groce but they will not pay what they were paying Keith. They need to trim athletics.

RE: Dambrot Leaving??
I think you could almost bet with their budget woes, they will not be bringing in higher-priced coaches with MAC-level and beyond experience as head coaches. I'm guessing a first time head coach coming up as an assistant or a low-major coach looking to move up. The issues there would give guys like Groce and others with his experience pause. I'm thinking Akron will go for a new head coach, not an experienced one in order to save money in the short term. They will like the hundreds of thousands of dollars they now are not paying Dambrot and are probably already figuring out ways to spend it not on a coach, if it's like any bureaucracy I know.

RE: Dambrot Leaving??
If they all happen that is a lot of transfers for a "successful " coach. It sounds similar to what happened at Ohio St. with Matta. Any idea why that was going to happen? Did the players know he was leaving awhile ago or did the program have serious coach/player issues throughout the year. They did play poorly (for them) at the end of the season. Cheatem in particular looked bad.

RE: Dambrot Leaving??
Player/Coach issues. Those people close to the program felt the players quit on Dambrot. He went nuts on them when they lost to us at home.

Williams is a problem child. His dad is a mini Lavar Ball

Dambrot knew at least 2 more would transfer and then losing two seniors was going to make it tough for next year

Keith also lost to STV kids. That was a pipeline for him. The younger Williams to Robert Morris and Graves to Buffalo. Btw, I think Graves could haunt us at Buffalo.

Willing to bet his leaving had more to do with Akron than what the Dukes are offering.
But hey, they have a new football stadium... well, it was new.

RE: Dambrot Leaving??
In other news, Youngstown State named Jerrod Calhoun their new head coach. I have a few friends who know him very well. He is a disciple of Bob Huggins.

From Verbal Commits twitter feed:
2018 Paint Valley (OH) F Dylan Swingle has received an offer from Duquesne.

Former Akron G Tavian Dunn-Martin is transferring to Duquesne.

2017 First Love Christian (PA) G David Collins has received an offer from Duquesne.

Akron and Duquesne offered 2017 Trotwood-Madison (OH) G Torrey Patton.

2017 Dakota (MI) F/C Jack Ballantyne has received an offer from Duquesne.

Duquenese seems like it is in as much disarray as Akron is. Its going to take him 7 years to build a program to get an at-large. I see another dozen-or-so years of NIT runs in his future.

As a fan of Akron's rival, I don't like this simply because it hurts the quality of the MAC. I am wondering what the fallout will be wins and loss wise at that purgatory they call a gym.

Jeff Boals...that would be interesting if he brought his assistants...05-mafia
