Florida destroying Virginia.
54 - 28 with 8 minutes left in second half.
Maybe Flrida much better than they appeared.

Wow. Maybe so. And I thought we got a good draw. They appear to be one of those teams that is just taking off at tournament time.

I'm sure it didn't hurt that they basically got to play 2 home games. But yeah they have been on fire.

RE: Official Game Thread: NCAA Tournament vs Florida (L 65-80)
I hadn't taken the time to post an in-depth "post mortem" (and maybe I don't need to), but one of the things I was going to point out is that I had been telling folks since we found out our opponent that the loss of Egbunu was overblown. I mean he was/is a great player, but they had more bodies to throw at us. I knew Robinson was good, but didn't know he was *that* good. He was fairly beastly for a couple of significant stretches of the game, while playing less than half of it (and matching Chiozza's 14 second-half tally). He sure looks and plays taller than his listed 6'8" height. Reminded me of a stronger (and maybe even more skilled) Greg Dennis. All kinds of tools, and the comments about being in the NBA in a while were on target.
Also......Nate Silver and his 538 crowd had Florida at an 86% chance of winning the game, which was higher than I had thought they'd have them. (And that was after I had posted maybe 60% chance in this thread earlier.) Certainly, you've got to play the game (as I often say), but when I saw that I became more doubtful, and changed my pic in a couple of brackets (while keeping ETSU in a couple, too). (And didn't want to post that here before the game, for the obvious reason.)
I did *not* think Florida was a great draw, but maybe none of the others were good, either. Would we have fared better against West Virginia? (No.) Purdue? (No.) Butler? (Almost certainly, no.) So there just weren't any 'great' draws at the 4 spot. Maybe Florida was our best shot. But those who thought the odds favored us because of them losing 3 of 4, and their center being out, were being a bit starry-eyed, imo.
All that said, it's likely the Gators are punching slightly above their weight class at the moment. But Wisconsin may also come out flat after knocking off 'nova, so interesting set-up.

I just enjoy seeing comments like this about us. We had a solid year and I hope we continue to build.
The title for this thread was "What schools can you see becoming a power in the distant future?"

Wow.. I thought Florida had choked that one away. Led the whole way and Wisconsin scored the last 8 to send it into OT.
Wisconsin hit a miracle 3 to send it into OT and Florida hit the same damn shot to win it.

Works for me !
Well essentially UF was a 2 seed. I was hoping they were still in a funk. Should have borrowed some Vanderbilt uniforms for the game

I tried to convince myself that UF winning in the tournament after our game with them was a good thing to a degree. I tried to convince myself that their wins over Virginia and Wsiconsin somehow made out loss to them more palatable. But, really, I hate that kind of thinking. Watching South Carolina handle UF today pleased me very much.
As an aside, wasn't it the new AD at the University of Tennessee at Knoxville the same person that fired Frank Martin when he was the AD at Kansas State University?
As a further aside, I read a "Deadspin" article about UF that talked about them winning their first 2 NCAA Tournament games by an average of 20.5 point per game, neglecting to mention that most of that average loss was owned by Virgina.

Although Martin and the AD had issues, Martin didn't get fired at K St. as he just decided to take the South Carolina job.
