Unfortunately Rice is on spring break. But I know a few students will still be around on campus who aren't going anywhere.

Looking on twitter for other games. I see UMKC hosting Green Bay and George Mason playing Loyola.

Dons lineup looks very similar to ours. Only one Sr and one Jr. Their bigs are both freshmen. They went 20-12 on the season, but only 5-6 on the road.

USF went 19-12 this season and has an RPI of 94..

Good wins against Troy, Illinois St, and Utah.

Not an easy matchup

I prefer a guard oriented team and they appear to be that type of team (although their guards aren't small). They also jack up a ton of 3's (even a few more than we have attempted this year). We obviously match up better against teams who rely on outside scoring over an inside game, so I like our chances.

Winning over Illinois State is a real eye opener. Ill State is a #1 seed in the NIT and open up against UC Irvine. They beat Ill State 66-58 during a tourney in Hawaii on 12.23.

USF announcement: http://usfdons.com/news/2017/3/12/mens-b...ional.aspx

Quote:USF (20-12, 10-8 WCC) will be making its 25th all-time postseason appearance and first since the 2013-14 season when the Dons earned a spot in the National Invitation Tournament. It will also be USF's second appearance in the CBI after making a showing in the 2012 event.

...

The Dons are enjoying their first 20-win season since the 2013-14 campaign under Smith, who is in his first season on the Hilltop after a six-year stay at Colombia, where he guided the Lions to last year's CollegeInsider.com Tournament. The Dons' 20 wins are the most by a first-year USF head coach since Pete Barry guided USF to a 24-7 finish in 1980-81.

...

Both teams rely heavily on three-point shooting. USF has made a school record 292 three-pointers this season and rank 37th in the nation in three-pointers made per game (9.1). Rice has made 311-of-800 three-pointers this season and rank 24th nationally in three-pointers made per game (9.4) and is 27th in three-point percentage (.389). (Ed: Dons are 292-818 (.357) from 3-point range.)

USF and Rice met last season in San Francisco as part of the Roundball Showcase, with the Dons coming away with an 80-54 victory. The Dons and Owls also split a pair of games in a 10-day span during the 1981-82 season. After USF defeated Rice, 85-69 in the Golden Gate Invitational on Dec. 18, the Owls turned the tables and upset the 7th-ranked Dons, 78-66 on Dec. 28 at the Rainbow Classic in Honolulu.

I did not find any other C-USA team in the NIT or CIT brackets--- is Rice then the only C-USA team besides MT in post-season play this year? If so, not to be too cynical, did we "buy" our way in? If so, good investment!

I wonder if a double-header with one ticket for both games might draw more fans than the sum of both individual games on their own.

Rumor is that its a $35,000 fee to host a first round game, and it increases with each round... I think we have a pretty good chance at hosting another game if we win, as the Georgia Southern fans on their are bitching about pay to play, and I doubt Utah Valley has deep pockets.

What's the fee to be a first-round visiting team?

RE: Rice vs USF Wednesday at Tudor
This is what an article last year said about the CIT finances:

Quote:The hosting fee is used to help visiting teams offset travel costs. The CIT tries to match opponents from similar regions, and pays all traveling expenses for a party of 22 to travel (air, hotel, bus and food) regardless of cost. It also compensates game officials, who are assigned by Rick Boyages, associate commissioner of the Big Ten Conference. The CIT covers all costs related to television production (the tournament is broadcast on CBS Sports Network) and internet streaming (via Sidearm), as well as providing t-shirts and other gear for participating players.

Host schools keep 100% of the gate and any related concessions or parking. In addition, they have the freedom to secure local sponsorship to underwrite the game and can keep any other funds raised related to the game.
