That's more in line with what I found. My trip would have cost $1572. That's with only 1 airline stop because 2 or 3 is downright ridiculous, two nights stay and the $100 GA ticket. Sickening, when it really could have been Buffalo, Milwaukee, Indianapolis, or even Tulsa.

Drinking water.

I just did a search on Travelocity for flight and hotel and it was about $650-$750 for downtown Sac. $763 for Holiday Inn/Arena: you can walk to the venue. Tickets are $100. Free hotel shuttle from the airport. Yes, you would add in your costs to get to the airport and park if you need to. Food: I assume you would eat even if you don't go, so eat as expensively or cheaply as you want in Sacramento. I was just doing the calculations for myself and I could do it comfortably for under $1000. Cheaper yet if I shared a hotel room if my buddy goes.

Are you sleeping in a tent and traveling in a Cessna? LOL I just did a search on that site and nothing came up anywhere close to $650.... more like $1000-1500. 04-rock

My flight would be out of Dayton. Maybe that's the difference. I'll screenshot it if you want.

Its between 600-800 if you fly out of Akron Canton and stay in a 2 1/2-3 star hotel and 900-1000 if you stay in a 4 star hotel. Both flying in Friday and leaving Saturday.

RE: Kent State vs. UCLA (NCAA Tournament)
The Golden Flashes have earned the 14th seed in the South Regional and will take on the #3 seed UCLA. Coach Steve Alford's Bruins are 29-4 overall including records of 15-3 in the PAC 12 conference and 5-1 on neutral floors. UCLA has wins over a handful of tournament teams including Kentucky, Michigan, Oregon, USC and Arizona.

Six Bruins average double digit points starting with leading scorer TJ Leaf. The 6'10 225 pound freshman is scoring 16 points and pulling down 8 rebounds per game. He is joined in the post by big 7'0 245 junior Thomas Welsh who averages 10 points and 8 rebounds in about 25 minutes per game.

UCLA has some guards too. One of them is the son of the head coach. 6'3 senior Bryce Alford from Albuquerque is scoring 15 points a game and can fill it up. Another talented guard is the player that all the "young and cool" people are talking about; 6'6 freshman Lonzo Ball. Ball averages 14.6 points on 54% from the field to go along with his 6+ rebounds per game. Ball's fame and popularity are about the last thing that Kent State should be concerned about. Kent State will also have to deal with 6'5 senior Isaac Hamilton who averages 14 points a game. The problem is thats not it...

UCLA also gets strong numbers off the bench from 6'1 sophomore Aaron Holiday who averages 12 points a game and is a solid defender.

These numbers make the Bruins a tall task in more ways than one. The game being played in Sacramento is obviously no help to the Flashes either. But is it possible? Its March Madness Baby!!

The bottom line is that this is a week to celebrate and enjoy Kent State Basketball. This group of players and coaches deserves to enjoy every practice, every interview and every minute leading up to the game. I'll be wearing my gear all week long and telling anybody who will listen about this season's turnaround, about Jimmy Hall and about Walker's performance at the Q.

If you aren't making the trip to Sacramento on Friday may I suggest stopping for your favorite bottle on the way home. I'll toast with ya somewhere out here in cyber space around 9:57PM.

GO FLASHES!!

Good summary - but scary - PAC 10 was I feel much stronger than Big10 this year. Wish we could have ended up in Indy easy for me - but as you say the kids deserve the trip and chance to play on the big stage! I might Celebrate with a green flash ale if I can find some here in the hinterlands

Bleacher Report has Kent winning the NCAA at 3,000,000 to 1. You think it's worth a few bucks??

USA Today posted an article of players in the tournament you don't know, but probably will. Guess who made the list?

RE: Kent State vs. UCLA (NCAA Tournament)
And one from Mr. Alexander who we know stops by from time to time.

http://www.cleveland.com/sports/college/...iver_index

If I could build a non conference schedule for the upper tier MAC teams (say 12 non conference games), it would look like something like this. Assume bold faced games are home and homes:

Memphis
Rhode Island
obligatory butt kicking
obligatory cupcake
Davidson
Saint John's
College of Charleston
Old Dominion
Southern Illinois
Princeton
Pittsburgh
New Mexico State

Obviously more goes into scheduling than I will ever know. But Kennesaw State, Chicago State, Grambling, Mississippi Valley State and UT Rio Grande do not help the cause. You can trade out James Madison for Charleston, Harvard for Princeton and Seton Hall for Pittsburgh, but the gist of it is stepping up the schedule with winnable games against upper level teams.

RE: Kent State vs. UCLA (NCAA Tournament)
Game preview from NCAA.com:

Quote:UCLA vs. Kent State: Oh, can the Bruins do things with the basketball. Six players average in double figures, and then there’s the 90 points and 21.5 assists a game, and the 52 percent shooting, all tops in the nation. But the other team gets the ball sometimes, too, and that’s when the trouble can start. The Bruins coughed up an average of 89 points in their four defeats. Speaking of scoring, Kent State came from 17 points behind to beat Central Michigan 116-106 in the first round of the Mid-American Conference Tournament. Then the Flashes went through the top three seeds in the league, winning by an average of 3.3 points a game. A plucky bunch, and they’ll need to be when the UCLA attack comes at them.

Wow, he hit the trifecta: a cartoon that isn't funny to Republicans, Democrats, or basketball fans.
