MSU got in, because their AD lead the committee.

Also loving some of the mid-major matchups between Wichita/St. Mary's/Dayton/VCU to knock each other out.

Yea, that's convenient. Kind of like an unofficial "Play-in" round.

On the positive side, it guarantees the winning teams of those matchups are one win from the sweet 16.

ABSOLUTELY AMAZING HOW THIS 'ALWAYS' happens (kind of like nearly every .500 power conference team always getting in) ... sure the selection committee reasoning is not that one Cinderealla advances ... but one less chance for a Sweet 16 Cinderella going forward ... Got to fix this system ...

The NCAA Tournament is a very, very, lucrative business and given that the system is control by the "major" conferences (just as surely as the bowl system is in football) it should come as no surprise that the deck is stacked toward directing as much of those big time discretionary (at large) dollars back to the major conferences and NOT the mid-majors. Once you realize that it is ALWAYS about the money then the selection committee choices make perfectly good sense.

I implied that the four of those teams were in the same bracket 'pool' to feed into the Sweet 16, but they're not, they're both 7/10 matchups that will play against a 2-seed in all likelihood. UD/WSU has to play UK and VCU/St. Mary's against Arizona.

I'm hearing more about Lonzo Ball's quest for a billion dollars than his quest for a NCAA championship. Yes, he's one of the best players, but it doesn't sound like he's focused on playing a game on Friday. Look for Kent State surprising UCLA

RE: Beat UCLA!
I think all that peripheral stuff with the Balls is just the father. From all accounts, Lonzo is a serious player who is a great teammate and has the attitude you want from someone of his abilities. The thing we do have going for us is that they really don't play much defense.

Like to see the Akron - Houston game, but it's the Toledo - G'dub game. Good luck to all but especially rooting for the Kent State. No love for UCLA - hoping you can send those guys packing, singing the West Coast Blues.

Note: Have a slight favorite for G'dub since they are the only other continuous founding A10 members left beside us and a young coach. Be an intersting game with no skin it.

RE: Beat UCLA!
Game preview from NCAA.com:

Quote:UCLA vs. Kent State: Oh, can the Bruins do things with the basketball. Six players average in double figures, and then there’s the 90 points and 21.5 assists a game, and the 52 percent shooting, all tops in the nation. But the other team gets the ball sometimes, too, and that’s when the trouble can start. The Bruins coughed up an average of 89 points in their four defeats. Speaking of scoring, Kent State came from 17 points behind to beat Central Michigan 116-106 in the first round of the Mid-American Conference Tournament. Then the Flashes went through the top three seeds in the league, winning by an average of 3.3 points a game. A plucky bunch, and they’ll need to be when the UCLA attack comes at them.

Just saw a Kent State commercial in the middle of the Wichita-Dayton game. Can't say I expected that.
