Was that acronym intentional?

Wright State declined going to any pay-to-play postseason tournament because the university is having a metric crapload of financial trouble.

I agree on this. The Women's NIT takes the highest regular season finisher from every conference available (32) plus 32 at larges.

If other tourneys can survive after that so be it. To me the one that makes the most sense but is basically 0-2 is the Vegas 16. Everyone meets in Vegas and it is over in a matter of days.

The nit should hook up with the Vegas backers for set nit games in Las Vegas. Maybe the first 2 round of games should be in Vegas. Travel wise it would be simple to send ever team to Vegas for first two rounds than go to campus for rounds 3-4 with final four in MSG. Las Vegas has plenty of arena's and hotels for 64 teams but attendence could be low. Yet, Vegas could make a nice midweek event out of it and all the teams get a fun trip.

I said this last year and I'll keep saying it til it's true. No reputable basketball program should ever accept a postseason bid to any tournament except to the NCAA and NIT.

I disagree. Rice shared a split front page of the Houston Chronicle Sports section with UH today ("Creating a Culture") for the CBI game. In the story (or maybe it was the UH story?), a snarky point was made that Rice/UH are in the post-season and UT/A&M aren't.

The Rice story also mentioned the players were fired up about post-season play. When does it become a recruiting tool that your school chose to put the team into the post-season, even in the CBI/CIT, versus a competing school who has a history of declining participation?

Totally disagree. The NIT is NCAA Lite. The NCAA dictates the NIT. Again, I believe the Vegas 16 should be the coolest and glitziest of the rest. Unlike the CBI/CIT, the Vegas 16 is a destination tournament for 4 or 5 days. Who wouldn't want to spend a few days in Vegas?

Also, there are 351 division one schools with about 80 or so controlling the dynamics and the money! Some of the remaining 270 will NEVER get into the Big Dance or if so, will get railroaded with a bogus lower seed to go up against a higher seeded team, a lá Northern Kentucky vs Kentucky, virtually assuring the non power team of basically playing one game. A lot of these young men would like to extend their careers a game or two more just because they love the game. I understand the financial aspect of some of the pay-to-play tourneys and teams unable or unwilling to pay, but a problem arises when ADs, Coaches, and fan bases (who don't even play) rip a Tourney, sullies its rep and casts a dark cloud of disorganized, mismanaged amateurism about it, which is not the case at all. The kids just want to play!
