what does your question have to do with this topic or my points. honest question.

let's say i don't follow college bball. so what? what does that prove in your mind? honest question.

I see you can't answer a simple question. And I asked because if you don't follow the sport, then your comments on where he tournament should be held are less informed. As for your posting, I hadn't seen a post from you in a long time until this weekend and it takes about 10 seconds to click on your user profile and confirm my thought. That you're absent during the CBB season, so I bet you don't follow the sport closely.
He only throws up strawman arguments, so I'm not sure why his posts are actually worth responding to.

I suspect your entire post is true and and I should take the advice I quoted more frequently.

ok, none of this refutes any of my points. it is your typical passive aggressive attacks on me. if I don't follow college bball, that is not evidence that playing games in NYC helps ACC recruit in NYC and northeast.

Clemson wasn't winning many ACC games so why would I be posting on here. plus you guys spend most of your time talking about ACC revneue and marketing rather than sports.

the basketball team that uses MSG the most is the Knicks, and the only history they are making the past 15 years is historically bad teams. lol

Greenville, SC is the PERFECT place for any ACC championship other than football / men's basketball.

There's zero excuse not to hold the baseball, women's basketball, and even lesser stuff like CC/Track/Softball there at least from time to time.

The excuse is it is Greenville.

Just kidding. We stayed in Greenville this year for the Pitt-Clemson game. It's a nice small city. I don't know if it is "perfect." There are a lot of nice minor league parks for baseball, and Louisville is one of them, and I suspect that city will support the ACC very well there this year. A lot of these olympic sports championships are held at the hosts' on-campus facilities for a reason: cost.

Like football, I think women's basketball just needs to be located in a community that will support it every year. If Greenville would do a better job buying tickets and filling seats than Greensboro, than I'd be for moving it there permanently. I don't know if Greenville would be more into women's basketball than Greensboro though.

Where do you feel most Louisville fans come down on location seeing as they don't have the same sort of geographical and historical tie to MSG as Syracuse, Pitt, and BC.

RE: ACC Championship Locations Going Forward
I said it in the Boeheim thread, but I think it bears repeating here: the tournament should hit the northern and southern ends of the conference footprint every four years and hit the close to the geographic center every other year.

My personal preference is to rotate between NYC, DC, Atlanta, and North Carolina (Charlotte or Greensboro), then start the cycle over.

When it comes to the location of championships for lower-profile sporting events like baseball, soccer, track, etc... I wish my hometown of Richmond, VA had the facilities in place to host such events. It's conveniently located in the relative middle of the conference footprint, right off I-95, and I think people would be surprised at the entertainment options. It's obviously not on the level of a major metropolis, but the food and craft beverage industry is excellent and there's lots of interesting history in the city. But until the sporting infrastructure is there, it's a pipe dream.

i think most ACC fans would prefer Greenville to Loiusville. i think that is a blowout, actually. lol

i think the arena is large enough for the tournament if ticket prices are standard and not dirt cheap, 6 bucks like in Brooklyn.

Every single future ACC tourney should be played in ClemVegas' bedroom.

That's the only logical place.

RE: ACC Championship Locations Going Forward
Over a 10 year cycle, I'd go with the following.

2 - Greensboro
2 - NYC
2 - Atlanta
2 - Charlotte
1 - DC
1 - Wildcard

As for the Greenville conversation above, I have no problem with it being left off of the list since Atlanta, Charlotte, and Greensboro are close, and also since the NCAA tournament is now an option for Greenville again. However, in exchange for not bringing the ACC basketball tournament to Greenville, I'd like to see some ACC baseball tournaments added to Fluor Field in the future.

Methinks you imply the Sunshine State?

Hey, I wouldn't mind visiting my aunts in Miami in March some time.

ACC Championship Locations Going Forward
I think NYC has been displaced as the basketball Mecca by Kinston. With a population of 22,000 there have been 8 first round NBA draft picks since 1977. It started with Cedric Maxwell and the last one was Brandon Ingram. Others include Jerry Stackhouse, Reggie Bullock, Charles Shackleford.

Watching the B1G semifinal today at the Verizon Center, I was stunned by what appeared to be skimpy attendance. It looked like a third of what would be the best seats in the house were empty. Was the rest of the arena as sparsely filled? And if the B1G can't draw a crowd in DC on a weekend, what's the risk that the ACC might get the same result in the future?

NYC prep hoops has undoubtedly fallen off quite a bit in the last 10-20 years. It used to churn out top players at a rate way higher than the national average average. Players from other cities used to go to NY to test themselves. Now...and I actually saw this stat somewhere some time ago, it has fallen back to the national average. But that means there are still a ton of good players in the New York metro area because it is so large and hoops is still the primary prep sport in the boroughs. Some of the talent has fled out surrounding regions, such as, for example, ball has gotten stronger across the river in NJ.

Unlike the South where there is really no competition for the ACC hoops brand, there is fierce competition in the Northeast. The whole reason the ACC added teams was to expand into this new lucrative region. It is business, and there is more money in NYC than anywhere else because it is bigger than anywhere else and the financial capital of the continent. That's why any conference with a school near its footprint is trying to plant flags in it, trying to push media deal into it, which also means trying to increase awareness and interest in their brand there. Opening up the possibility of potential new recruiting connections for some programs is just a side benefit. No one has ever argued to play the tournament in NYC only for recruiting purposes. But because NYC recruiting isn't as strong as it was in the 1980s doesn't disqualify the utility of pushing your brand there for all cumulative reasons, nor does it eliminate the value of recruiting in the nation's largest metro area.

But I've said all this multiple times now. Obviously the conference leadership already thinks this way, so there really is no reason to repeat it further.

The problem with the B10 in the east is that they only have one program in any reasonable distance that has any interest or pedigree in basketball: Maryland, and the Terps lost yesterday. I get no sense that Maryland fans have any sense of general interest in Big Ten basketball outside of their own situation, at least not yet. They weren't going to show up today to watch Wisconsin and Northwestern. And then, in the city, you actually have D1 programs Georgetown, George Washington, Howard, and American (not to mention George Mason in the suburbs), so its not like Maryland has a monopoly on hoops fans in the beltway area nor is there any historic interest in B10 basketball in the area.

For DC, you have a lot more programs in the east with basketball interest...In a 4 to 4.5 hour radius, you have Pitt, UVA, VT, UNC, NCSU, Duke, and Wake. And Syracuse will travel to DC too. All these schools have a lot of alumni in the area as well (as do many schools in the Big Ten), but I think the ACC is likely to do better in DC than the B10 unless Maryland would be guaranteed to get to the championship game every time they played there.

Boeheim endorses Greensboro as tournament hosts.

“I love Greensboro,” Boeheim said Thursday. “I think it’s a great place, and I thought they did a great job with the tournament. We had the best hosts and treatment of any tournament that I’ve been at.

I really enjoyed the NYC tourney. Some of the best games I've watched this year. I think the intensity levels rival the MSG old Big East finest days.

The ACC tournament should never be played in Florida, on a member's home floor, or a week earlier than the other major tournaments.
