Washington DC would be a good long term choice, IMO.

New York, DC, Charlotte and Atlanta would be a nice rotation. I wouldn't be against an occasional visit to Cincinnati for the sake of Pitt, Louisville and Notre Dame fans.

This was my initial thinking as well. But with the ACC football championship game mostly in Charlotte (and I think it should be the permanent site once the political nonsense is resolved), then my current view is that when the rotation comes back around to NC the site should always be Greensboro to honor the history and tradition of the league.

Of course the way conference expansion is going, the ACC might have 20 teams by the next decade and will need two locations each year. 03-lmfao

Cheers,

It's all moot until NC repeals HB 2. While we wait for that to happen, if it ever does, Greensboro desperately needs to redevelop High Point Road, where the Coliseum is located, into an attractive, vibrant restaurant, bar and entertainment district. High Point Road is killing the Greensboro Coliseum today. Surely the city fathers can see that.

They can renovate til the cows come home, and it still won't be NYC, Washington DC, Atlanta or Orlando.

Thank God!

all the people talking about how great the non-Greensboro locations are probably have never been to a tournament. why do they care where it is played.

True, but none of those cities is within easy driving distance of 7 ACC schools.

If it has to be outside of NC, I think DC is the best compromise. It's relatively in the middle and there's tons of stuff to do around the stadium.

I went last year when the tournament was in DC. Easy metro ride from our place in Fairfax.

So yeah, I care because it's convenient for me, but also because the tournament did really well in DC. You would know that if you paid attention to basketball instead of parachuting in to a discussion about a sport you've already admitted you care nothing about.

You are absolutely correct. DC would be a good place to have the tournament maybe 20% of the time (max).

i never said i don't care about basketball. You lie like crazy.

what is that you know about basketball anyway? what conversations have you had about actual sports on here? what evidence do you have that you knnow more about basketball than I do?

i never expressed any opposition to the tournament being played in DC and other places, so why are you in attack mode? my comment was not even directed at you.

let me guess, it is because I sasid I don't think males should be in female restrooms and locker rooms after you forced your liberal politics on the forum. this isn't the Huffington Post comment section, homey.

Wow, XLance, so you must be coming around to NYC for the other 80% (since Greensboro is still in NC which we are assuming in the first line is off limits)?

Well, it looks like Jim Boeheim gets the last laugh. Now he has a chance to play in a post season tournament in Madison Square Garden.

I'm sure NC based ACC fans are crying crocodile tears for us. He earned it. 03-lmfao

Realistically Cuse needed to either beat Miami or not suck to someone like UConn, GTown, BC or St Johns. One more win and they are in. Now they can go to MSG if they win 3 games in the Dome. Cuse gave enough reason for the committee to keep them out.

The ACC lost money for the next 6 years over this...that sucks.

The ACC came really close to getting 11. The table was set this year.

If SU didn't suck in the non-conference, and if Pitt didn't change coaches and take the month of January off....

RE: ACC Championship Locations Going Forward
The ACC has essentially no competition for its basketball brand south of Maryland and north of South Carolina. It has 4 schools in North Carolina with blanked coverage and zero power conference competition. South of North Carolina, there is one other power conference, which is arguably the weakest basketball power conference, and essentially no multi-bid mid-majors (unless you count the increasingly weak multi-region American). North of North Carolina, two other basketball power conferences are competing against it, and three if you count WVU's intrusion into the region, plus the regular multi-bid A10.

Can anyone explain how playing in Greensboro strategically advances the conference's position on any front?

can anyone explain how playing the tournament in other cities increases the 'conference position' on any front. ACC games are already on television, the biggest stage.

the tournament is supposed to be about the teams and the fans.

Yeah, Syracuse lost to 5 sub-.500 teams and was just out. Win two of those (maybe BC and UConn) and they're in.

If Clemson could have won maybe 3 of the 9 ACC games they lost by two possessions or less they're probably in.
