RE: Were Your Expectations Met This Season?
NO! I figured we'd miss the NCAA tournament and hoped we'd make the NIT. Halfway through the year expectations changed when it looked like we'd for sure get an NIT berth and if we kept improving and caught a bit of luck, win our conference tournament. The way we finished the year, losing the big lead at UConn, the blowout losses, losses on our home floor, looked like a team that got worse. Our defense was terrible. Our offense went through long droughts. This years team was a disappointment.

RE: Were Your Expectations Met This Season?
They have not been met in three seasons.

Thankfully, our down years are still winning seasons, as opposed to a 12-20 type implosion, but, minimum NIT has not been met, so no.

I had Memphis with 18-20 wins before the season began. By mid-season I was thinking 22 wins were likely & then they went in the tank. Hard to explain the team going down hill in the last 3 wks.....and before someone says minutes played by 5-6 guys, look at the SMU mins played.

You have to be kidding. Tubby took over a disaster. The team is still two or three years away at best.

No kidding. Particularly since Tubby threw this year away.

Record wise, we were right in line. The absolute collapse in the final weeks was dumbfounding and frustrating. We lost our last two games by 71 points. 71. 71. 71.

71

That leaves a bad taste in the mouth.

No, I am not kidding. Tubby's stated "I expect us to be a postseason team" and I believed him.

Pretty much. I did not have lofty expectations but I certainly did not expect to watch them roll over the final few weeks and suffer a 40 point beat down to SMU and then finish the season getting rolled by 30 by UCF...

Same here. My preseason expectations were a 20 win season and a trip to the NIT. We were on track for both until the last 5 or 6 games, when we just collapsed. That being said, having such a short bench could have led to the collapse, due to fatigue.

Good point, Mimi - our down years at least have not been total losing-record disasters.

Bull. If Fuente was able to turn the football program around in 3 years then a HOF basketball coach should be able to turn the basketball program around in no more time... He has pretty good pieces in place already.

If DL leaves what pieces are you talking about? If you think any of the incoming freshmen he has signed are going to show up and be Keith Lee or Derek Rose think again.

RE: Were Your Expectations Met This Season?
I had zero expectations this year. Was simply glad that the previous coach left. Figured it be a lean year with the lack of experience and depth.
No thrilled by the end of the year blowouts but not totally surprised.
Unlike key some here, I think next year will be much better and so on. Happy with Tubby although he's only been here 10 months.

Why zero? With the Lawsons coming back and an apparently solid bench coach, why not add a couple of decent pieces and at least make the NIT?

Tubby completely and totally lost this team at the end. They quit on him plain and simple. They were in a position to be a solid NIT team and then the bottom fell out and Tubby just looked lost.

I do not share your optimism about next year, but fervently hope Tubby proves me wrong. I miss participating and advancing in the NCAA Tourney.

It is irrelevant if he leaves at this point. He played this year for Tubby and it is Tubby's job to keep him here. It is Tubby's job to recruit players to his system. I have very little expectations for incoming freshman. However, Tubby had all off season to recruit and this entire season to recruit. He is making his own bed at this point. I really do not care whether we have a class full of 5* players or 2* players as long as they fit Tubby's system and he can win with them. There is no reason for a HOF coach to not be able to get us in the NCAA tournament by year 3.
