I know you east coast guys can't count, but we can on the west coast. It's the Pacific 12; and no hyphen when spelling Pacific out fully. 07-coffee3

RE: NCAA Division I-FBS Athletic Department Revenues
+3 to you!!!

General comments:

- This is the gold standard database for this kind of data. The USA Today database is just for entertainment, comparatively

- About time they updated the data!! Should it really take until March of the following school year to get the previous school year's data uploaded??

- It really is amazing to see how well Texas does in revenue, and even more amazing that it's so far down in the two main revenue sports

- SEC top 10 are all really good
- Big Ten mostly top heavy, but the obvious #2
- ACC and PAC are well behind, especially the PAC. Just further goes to show that people out west care far less about supporting college athletics, on average, than people in the midwest and the south
- Big 12 would be last in the P, but Texas and Oklahoma do such a great job

RE: NCAA Division I-FBS Athletic Department Revenues
Interesting aside about NDSU (one of my schools):

- as far as full-time undergrad enrollment goes: about 6000 male (56%) and 4700 female (44%).

- but unduplicated varsity athletics participation is: 273 male (66%) and 142 female (34%) !!!
(the duplication is due to cross-country/indoor track/outdoor track double and even triple counting athletes, both sexes having about +70 duplicated roster participants, as they're considered separate sports by the NCAA)

Obviously football is a huge driver of that, with 113 roster participants. But the other sports actually drive the number up quite a bit, too! Baseball has 39 roster participants to softball's 21, men's basketball has 10 r.p. to women's 7, wrestling has 39 r.p. to women's soccer & women's volleyball's combined 46. And men's XC/indoor/outdoor track have 125 r.p. to women's 127.

Do baseball, wrestling, and the men's track sports need so many roster positions?? Especially the track sports. The long time, legendary head coaches for wrestling and men's track sports have been gone now for a few years, so their clout in the dept is gone as well. Not sure if baseball has much clout, as it doesn't win nearly like softball does, for whatever reason.

If NDSU ever goes to FBS, it will need all 16 sports that it currently has. But if it stays FCS, it only needs 14 sports. I've advocated for cutting baseball and M Golf completely. Not sure if that has a chance.

But in any case, they really ought to consider putting some roster limits on all of those men's sports, particularly the track sports.

RE: NCAA Division I-FBS Athletic Department Revenues
One other interesting thing (to me, at least), is the follow caveat which is explicitly mentioned right on the NDSU EiA page:

"NDSU offers a wide variety of athletic opportunities for its students at the varsity, club, intramural and recreational levels. NDSU diligently monitors its students' interests so its athletic offerings can continue to meet its students' needs."

This goes literally right to the heart of Title IX, which by the letter of the law is purely about participation so as to meet the interest and abilities of females on campus.

Title IX has nothing to do with scholarships, which is a common misconception.
