We are as close to the G5 as we are to the P5 if not closer

There is no P6, but UCONN is paying P5 money for G5 mediocrity performance. Seems pretty poor ROI 01-wingedeagle

And just to refresh your memory there is no P5, nor a G5. That was coined in the press and has no official NCAA sanction. The AAC provides the exact same benefits to student athletes as the conferences that asked the NCAA for autonomy in being able to legislate to provide benefits to their student athletes. It applied across the board to all D1 FBS schools if they had the means to provide the extra benefits.

By the way, even national champions have off seasons when their roster is beaten up and injured. UCONN will be fine.

If you pull for NC State you need to be concerned with your own **** athletic department's issues.

Anyone else notice our lowest revenue team (Tulsa) brought in more revenue than every other G4 except SDSU, Hawaii, and Fresno?

NCAA Division I-FBS Athletic Department Revenues
How does a college AD make so much money ?, I know there is the TV revenue, but where else does all this money come from and where does it go? , students paying it?, why are so many schools broke all the time when so much money is coming in for sports

Actually, I agree more with st932253 -- this data says "Tweener" more than P6, if we are sayng that P6=closer to the five bowl-contract-conferences than to the little 4.

Median for each conference is a valid way to look at data like this:

SEC $125M
Big10 $105M

BigXII $91
PAC12 $88M
ACC $85M

AAC $50M

MWC $36M
CUSA $29M
MAC $29M

SunBelt $22M

However, having said that THIS dataset (as opposed to say TV ratings) says tweener rather than closer to the P5 than to the G4...G4 fans need to get the blank out of here with "We're all the same" That just aint true, you may really want to think that, but you need to just stop.

How come Army's is listed, but AF and Navy's aren't (I thought all Federal institutions didn't)?

AAC is G5 1/2

I don't think anyone expected, given the built in advantages of the autonomy conferences, that there wouldn't be a gap from those teams.
That said, it is significant that the AAC has so much separation from those conferences underneath.
Where would the AAC be with commensurate resources to the higher group? That's the question.

RE: NCAA Division I-FBS Athletic Department Revenues
These "revenue" numbers include school subsidies.

And the private school numbers are inflated by their tuition costs. SMU's tuition costs for their athletes is more than double that of Houston, for example. (Part of that is because SMU sponsors one more sport than UH and has about 10% more athletes on scholarship than UH).

There is simply no way on God's green earth that Tulane generated more "revenue" than most of the American.

I prefer the USAToday database to this one, because it's easier to add ticket sales + donations to get a gauge of fan support. But the private schools don't report to USAToday.

On this database, "unallocated revenue" (line 13 of the revenue/expense summary) is probably the best gauge of the amount of the direct school subsidy. Note: this subsidy amount may not include student fees in all cases:

Unallocated Revenue/Subsidy
Tulane $49.2M
USF $30.9M
UConn $26.4M
Houston $17.6M
UCF $16.2M
East Carolina $13.4M
Memphis $12.5M
SMU $12.0M
Temple $11.7M
Cincinnati $11.2M
Tulsa $6.4M

Stated in reverse, here are the total revenues allocated to the athletic teams. In almost all cases, this will include ticket sales, donations, licensing, conference revenue as well as student fees in some cases:

UConn $52.8M
SMU $44.9M
Temple $39.2M
Memphis $37.4M
UCF $36.1M
Tulsa $34.1M
Houston $33.3M
Cincinnati $32.2M
ECU $29.6M
USF $17.5M
Tulane $4.0M

But:

USF and Tulane are shocking high in subsidy and low in team revenue.

While Tulsa, Temple and SMU are shockingly high in team revenue and low in subsidy.

So I don't know if all the schools are reporting the same way (apples to apples).

If broken down by numbers before subsidies, the numbers are even more staggering. The SB, MAC and CUSA are very heavily subsidized. The MWC is a little less subsidized than the AAC, but even after taking the subsidies out of it the AAC has the highest athletic budgets. Cincinnati, USF and Uconn are still receiving Big East legacy money, but only Uconn has a big budget. Why? Also, what's going on with USF? Why aren't they putting money into their program? There was talk about them building an OCS but they don't seem to be a program that's got the funds right now.
Cheers!
