As we talk about streaming vs cable or satellite, I'm always curious about the demographics on the board. Viewing habits of young people have changed compared to the 30+ crowd. So was just curious of what makes up this board.

I dumped Satellite TV over a year ago. Paying $100 month for the 5 channels that I actually watched was crazy. ESPN is struggling with declining subscription viewers and escalating programming costs. Sling TV and individual subscription viewing is the future.

We do this along with Amazon Firestick and put up an antenna for over the air.
Sling - $35
Netflix - $9.99
Antenna - 1 time cost of $45

I'd love to dump TWC, but the wife it technically challenged and hates any type of change.

I have DirecTV, Netflix and Amazon (Roku and Chromecast), and an antenna.I get Direct for less than $50 a month because when I threatened to leave they gave me a $50 credit for 12 months.

I have cable (I'm three months from age 30), but I'm about to get rid of it for internet only and possibly get a few streaming services here and there. I will save me about $100 a month at first, but I have a feeling as time goes on, shows and movies will be more spread out among the different services and I will be paying the same as before.

I am in my 30s and cut cable years ago. I will never go back.

I'm 58. I cut the cord years back. Set up my own media library, hooked up an antenna and subscribe to Netflix and Amazon Prime (more for shipping than content).

My great nephew came over and set up our Firestick. We weren't using it because we didn't know how. Still trying to figure it out.

Amazon Prime is good for free movies/shows that you haven't seen or movies/shows you like watching again, that are free. Yes, many are relatively recent and they charge a minimal fee but they have a slew that are $0.00

Just can't find a way to cut the cord and get everything I want without paying almost the same and having 5 different accounts. I have Netflix, Amazon Prime, and a couple Roku sticks (to get ESPN3 on my TVs much better than a PC). Problem now is that internet companies are capping usage per month if you don't have their cable package. ATT is 1TB/month then they charge $30 for every 50GB over that. I'm ok with paying ~$150/month for phone, cable, and internet. But if it goes to $200 then I'm done. When the contract is up I'll probably cut the cord.

Eventually those streaming services will cost similar to what cable cost. I have Netflix and DirecTV. I got DirecTV because of the NFL package. Before that I bought it the internet package for 100 bucks and it rarely worked. Most of the cable companies want your business so you can always cut the price down no matter what they are offering. In the next couple of years internet prices will prob go up if you are just an internet user. The reason for that will be because they want you to buy the cable services. And they know people can not live without internet.

We have Dish and Netflix but I have been looking at Roku and SlingTV as an alternative to what we currently do but like you I just can't cut the cord yet. I'm not convinced that the quality will be the same as what we have now. Also tried Amazon Prime but didn't like it at all.

We'll probably drop Netflix after Longmire season 6 viewing (releases in September). That's the only reason we got it to begin with. Although the husband has taken to watching some good Documentaries on there.



Side note: If you haven't caught Longmire, you're missing an excellent series. Western/crime drama set in WY (filmed in NM) based on Craig Johnson's books. (if you're into great acting and that genre). I'm not a big western fan but this one we looked forward to from the first promo and got hooked.

We had AT&T Uverse up until 6 months ago. Our introductory period ended and they expected us to pay $200 per month for tv, internet, hbo and two dvrs.

Switched changed cable providers and cut tv for Playstation Vue. $40 for internet (no datacaps) and $45 for Vue.

Vue allows you 5 concurrent devices at the same time per account - works with FireTV, Chromecast, Roku, and PS devices
"unlimited" cloud DVR space.
A bunch of sports - ESPN/ESPN2/ESPNU/SEC/LHN/FoxSportsSW/FS1/FS2/Bein/NBCSports/NFLN/NBA

I can't think of a single reason to back to traditional cable or satellite

I'm 26 and only subscribe to internet service and HBO Now. I use an Xbox One to stream content in the living room and a Chromecast in the bedroom.

My family (parents and younger brother) still shares one Netflix account. I use my friend's Charter account info for ESPN 3 and pretty much any other network that has on demand services. I've given him my HBO info in exchange.

My girlfriend (who lives with me) uses her grandma's Amazon Prime account and has account info for Hulu from her best friend.

When my brother was at Carolina him and his roommates sold parking in their yard each year to raise money for communal things, one of them being a super premium DirecTv package. Between the 5 roommates and associated siblings, SO's, friends, etc we estimated that about 30 people used their account for HBO Go. The Sunday night premiers of Game of Thrones were often very frustrating with everyone trying to use the same account at the same time
