Good for Miami. Given their history they should be something better than the doormat of MAC basketball.

Agree.

Miami should be a marque program in the MAC.

They have been a mess since the Men's Death Marches years ago. Will they ever get off the mat?

There have been rumors swirling around that a new arena or major renovation to Millett is on the horizon, so that plus a young team led by the reigning Freshman of the Year is something that might attract a solid coach. And while rebuilding the fan base may be a long term project, quick turnarounds are easier in basketball than any other sport with how small the rosters are. My choice for coach would be Butler assistant Ryan Pedon (was a former Miami assistant under Coles who helped run the program after admin support disappeared and Charlie's health began to fade), we'll see where we go from here.

I threw out Jim Christian a week or so ago. I think he would be a great hire if you can get a 5 year commitment out of him.

John Groce out at Illinois. Miami needs to jump on that asap.

Would much rather have Groce than Christian. The latter hasn't done squat in two rebuilds and had the benefit of taking over two stacked MAC teams, the former at least took an alright Ohio program to the next level and brings a lot of energy to the program. But I still prefer Pedon or Kelsey instead.

I'd guess Groce has taken on a couple recruits who wouldn't normally show up in Oxford to be wanted there. But you never know. I doubt he'd come back to the MAC. He took the quickest bus out the first time and could probably get a high assistant job for a year or two as he tries for something better.

Absolutely Groce over Christian!!! Miami doesn't need some lower energy slug to slowly rebuild. They need a massive electrical jolt to try to revive that program. A Groce type personality would be perfect. Someone that even when you go down early it's kicking and screaming and you leave some marks on the other team. I'm talking an energy that's infectious! It doesn't have to be Groce but someone similar.

Thanks. Some of the names below are similar. Our AD has been very public in what he is looking for and the average pay will be 800-900k plus bonuses. So the first two years would be lower, during Kellog buyout years, which totals 1.16M.

Hope both teams land a good one and head towards the top of our conferences. When we were joining the MAC for FB, remembers Ohio, Miami, and Akron as the BB schools. Buffalo not so much. Hate Buffalo, but liked all the Buffalo fans that I've met.

Groce is a good recruiter but his teams generally take him as far as the talent goes, IMO.

Miami needs a big program guy. Ron Cooper was over his head in the MAC.

*John, not Ron. But yeah, I agree that we desperately need to make a splash hire. But we're not getting it unless we find some serious money, which we may be very capable of doing. Though Pedon would be a good mix of success with his Butler ties and experience with his Miami and other MAC assistant jobs.

Sourced say today Dambrot was offered the USF job and he turned it down.
