You shake hands with your opponent after the game. This is true everywhere. Better teams than Akron have nutted up and congratulated the winners after a bitter loss. Dambrot left Sendy hanging out there just looking around.

Money-wise and in every other way, ESPN does zero favors for the MAC in hoops. Give the CBS Sports Network an exclusive contract. They are the true professionals.

ESPN could care less about the MAC. I was extremely impressed with CBS Sports, they focused on the game and not reminding everyone every 5 mins about the P5 game coming up.

So now Kent goes dancing and Akron goes to the NIT.

Shaking hands or not, I'll be pulling for Akron to do well in the NIT.

And, obviously, for Kent to pull off an even bigger upset and shake up their bracket at the Big Dance.

Speaking about crowds, let's have the annual discussion about how the tournaments should be moved to Huntington Center in Toledo. It holds 8,000+ for hockey, so it could hold a little more for basketball. When Akron-Kent "only" draws 10,300, the tourny needs to move somwhere smaller and more intimate. Supply might go down, but demand, and therefore pricing, will go up.

Don't get me wrong, I like Toledo (and the new arena is great) but the MAC tourney set up in Cleveland is perfect with hotels and restaurants galore all around the arena. No way Toledo could even come close to the 1st class experience that downtown Cleveland offers.

Guess it's typical Akron mentality. Once upon a time, Akron came to Amherst for the openning round of the NIT, which they loss. Later that day saw an Akron fan at the mall and said "you guys played a good game". No reply and walked away.

Would like to at least see the women's basketball tournaments moved to the Huntington Center in downtown Toledo. Toledo has a downtown that is compact, with a lot of new bars/restaurants and Renaissance Hotel opening soon...

Absolutely agree. I think Toledo would support the women's tourney far better than it is now. Seeing crowds of 100 people plus those who are there for other reasons in the Q is not good. Toledo has the best women's hoops support in the MAC by far, and I think it would carry over to the tourney. And it would be its own event and not just second fiddle to the men with things like having your championship game at 11:30 in the morning.

Agree. That one fan is certainly representative of all Akron fans for all time. And all Massachusets players are violent jerks because Julius Erving fought Larry Bird that one time.

How about the time Marcus Camby only tipped the Denny's waitress $1 on an $12 tab? Jerk. Just like the rest of them.

I hate cleveland, besides the Harry Buffalo... but you can't split tourney sites. If you have a mens and womens team in the semi's you have to choose and that would hurt attendance. It should rotate. Give chicago, Buffalo, Detroit, Grand Rapids, Columbus, Cleveland, cincy, Toledo... whoever it is a place to make it convenient for new teams every season. Kent and Akron always have a home court advantage. No wonder its hard for NIU or BSU to win the tourney.

RE: Weekend crowds will be
I like the idea of moving the women's tournament to Toledo and keeping the men's in Cleveland in theory, but feel it would be poor in practice. For starters the MAC only rents the Q for 1 extra day to support the women's tourney. It would need to rent an arena in Toledo for 3 nights to host it there. It would also make it a logistical nightmare for people who want to attend both the men's and women's games.

They could have the women's tournament a week before the men's. I believe there are a few conferences who do that.

But they could easily have both in Toledo. Here's the attendance for the Championship games:
2017 - 10,300
2016 - 6,700
2015 - 5,200
2014 - 5,200
2013 - 12,100
2012 - 10,300

While we are at it lets move the MAC Championship game too. It's not fair to Ohio and Buffalo that it's pretty much a home game for Toledo, BG, and EMU.

The MAC offices are headquartertered in Cleveland and Cleveland has drawn the largest attendance numbers of any city that has ever hosted the tournament, including Toledo. It only makes sense to keep it here.

Frankly believe the women need to stand alone. ... Toledo is perfect .. and the remedy (if the women want this) is to start their season a week earlier (last week in December) end a week earlier and have their tournament a week earlier.

As for moving the men's tournament ...10,300 at the Q is quite nice, even though it is not packed. Guaran-dame-tee the players/coaches would rather be there than Toledo ... if the women move (and they should) that would pave the way for ALL men's and women's teams to advance to one site ... when all men's teams came to Cleveland the best day of the tournament was the first day ... one-day ticket allowed you to come and go ... lots of word-of-mouth on the street, built walk-up interest the rest of the event.

If Toledo wants to host a tournament go get the Summit League.

That's why UB won two straight ... Akron hasn't won since 2011 and Kent State (before Saturday) had not won since 2008.

Guess they need to move the MAC FB game to Toledo, or Chicago, or Cleveland ??? too ...

Get a grip, brother.

What other domed venue is an option? Indy. That's it. I'd be ok with that location, as I am sure a lot of others would be, too. But the MAC would then be 2nd fiddle to the P1G since it's game is on Saturday.

It has been in Cleveland since 2000. So there is no comparison.

NBA arena is better for recruiting than a minor league Hockey arena.

Hotels are an issue downtown Toledo. Very few options.

It was in Toledo from 1995-1999 and it wasn't drawing anywhere close to 10k people for the Final. Since 1999 live attendance at live sporting events has decreased as more people watch at home yet Cleveland still attracts more people than Toledo did.

KSU, Akron, OU and Buffalo are not winning the tournament because they are closer and have more fans. They are winning because they have the best teams. Ask WMU. They won in Cleveland. Twice. The Q and its surrounding area are ideal for the tourney. Almost no conferences have a location with hotels and restaurants and night life all within walking distance. It's just ideal. Show me a city with as good a setup. I know everyone wishes it were closer to their schools. I wish it were closer to me! (3.5 hrs. away.) But you can't beat everything it offers anywhere in the MAC footprint.
