Mildly optimistic
I am cautiously optimistic looking forward. Not that I think we necessarily are going to win a boatload of games next season. But I think we have some good parts coming back and some good parts coming in. And Wes won't he a rookie head coach any more.

RE: Mildly optimistic
I'm not even mildly optimistic. Wes has been such a failure as a rookie, I suspect our support will continue to drop off. As mjs has stated many times, and Pappy has said also, our fans, probably including me aren't the real fans, we're the good times fans. If our program wins 20 or more, they show, if they don't, they drop off until we're good again. It's like that with most teams including the hogs, they win, they'll come out, if they lose they drop off. Not many good fans around like Cub fans. It even happens in the pro leagues too. Not many fans in any game will continue to support a team that is good every ten or twenty years.

I'm guessing that we're looking at another Steve Shields reign. Keep the local guy so local fans will come out. Well it evidently didn't happen this year. And Steve Shields would make Wes look like an amateur as a head coach. With the start he had, I can see recruits jumping all over themselves to sign with Wes.

I could be wrong, but I am guessing that won't happen. I just don't see Chasse doing that. He went with Beard over Big Joe. Wes will get his three years, but at that point if Chasse doesn't see reason for optimism, I think he will make a move. But I do think Chasse will make his decision based on the long term benefit to the program.

He'd better, because I don't know if this program will get off the mat this time after two or three more years of this.

I will always be, at least, cautiously optimistic. That's what being a fan is all about. Wes definitely has the necessary connections and people skills to be the best recruiter we've ever had. Still recruiting is far from an exact science, especially at our level. I believe Wes can get our talent level back to what we need to compete successfully in the Belt. Last year's team had really skilled senior leadership. This year's team had seniors that were mostly role players, and one All-Sun Belt caliber player who was forced to play out of position.
