Congratulations to KJ for being named rookie/freshman of the year!
And he says he will be back next season regardless of Dedric's decision

FWIW:
@mgiannotto KJ Lawson spoke with reporters before AAC awards banquet. Said he'll "definitely" be back at Memphis next yr regardless of Dedric's decision

KJ has told people privately that he's coming back for quite a while...I think he was also surprised/perplexed by the implication by some that he was leaving...he's a good kid

Speaking on KJ as a person, what you say is true. He went out of his way to be outgoing/friendly and kind to my sons. Asked them if they wanted to take a picture. He was good with them because my sons were shy and somewhat awe struck. I'm a big fan of KJ! I was very happy that he won the rookie of the year! Can't wait to see him continue his progression.

Next year is year #3 so we'll see a year from now. I'm unclear on the graduate transfer rule - if you have 2 years of eligibility left. Don't recall any cases like that.

I think Tubby is welcoming it. It's a few pot-stirrers who are disappointed to hear it.

But what if his dad is gone...
Sarcasm in case your meter is broken.
That would probably depend, self proclaimed pot-stirrer. If daddy is fired, you gotta think KJ is out. But daddy is probably not fired from an admin position, unless it's proven his the wikileaker, so that's moot. And KJ would have to sit a year - and lose it since he's already redshirted. Meaning he will have sat 2 of the last 3 years. Doubt he's willing to sign up for that. So the only way daddy is gone and KJ with him is...
If daddy gets a full-fledged AC position, then KJ is probably gone with him and will be allowed to play immediately. But what HC is going to use up a AC position when Chandler is still 2 years away? They're not going to do it just for KJ. And they're not going to do it this early for Chandler.
So chances are really good KJ is back.

I'm one of KJ's hardest critics but I'm more than astonished to see him get this recognition. Congratulations to him and I'm equally excited about his return next season. Go Tigers!

Shows how little you must either watch, or know about, basketball.
KJ was the leading Frosh scorer and rebounder in the AAC, and was 3rd overall in the AAC is rebounding.
There was little doubt he wasn't going to win the award.

Well said....KJ has left me fustrated a lot this year but has had some good moments, but he is still learning the college game while not at 100%. If we can get one good gem in the off season along with our current comments we might be OK. Thinking back to my youth in the 80-81 season we had a guy named Bobby Parks and Phillip Haynes and the age on 14 I was thinking we are 1 player away.

His performance on the court says otherwise. An award does not discount his poor shooting, handles, selfishness, and focus on complaining to the refs about every call. I'm not paid to be as knowledgeable about basketball or to coach the team like YOU! I'm just a Tiger fan.

KJ is a talented, good kid. When he's dialed in he can play with anyone. I can tell you with 100% certainty he's likes Tubby. He does play with a ton of emotion and always has. That hurts him sometimes, as everyone knows. He's a kid and when maturity levels him off a little his game is gonna take off. Tough, smart kid, with talent.
