If the ACC went into PAC-MAN mode
If the ACC gobbled up:

UCONN
CINCINNATI
WEST VIRGINIA
MEMPHIS

Which happens:

American raid the SBC or CUSA
Those conferences raid the AAC

Would the BIG XII grab the AAC teams in their footprint?

"If" (big if) this happened,

The AAC could add 1 school from the C-USA and play with 10 and still have a championship game.

C-USA would not refill and be okay with 13.

End of dominoes.

You're more likely to see Temple than Memphis in that quartet, but the ACC isn't adding four. They're sitting tight unless Notre Dame jumps in for football as well, and then they MIGHT add a single school.

Wolfman: you're probably right about that
Bogg: frankly I'd prefer Temple, but they don't move the football needle (the only sport people mention in these threads usually)

Cincinnati is the only attractive choice on that list.

Lance: WVU is historically a solid football program, and UCONN is on the come.

Agreed. Temple is a much better cultural fit and delivers a bigger market.

With that said, I'm with you about Notre Dame as well. If Notre Dame can be coaxed into playing a full conference schedule then only one more member will be admitted and it should come from that group of 4: UConn, Temple, Cincinnati, or WVU and I'm doubtful about WVU because the UNC and UVA types don't like their academic reputation.

The only way 4 schools join the ACC en masse is if there are departures.

Let me pose another question: could the schools who attractive to other leagues use the threat of departure and drastically reducing the value and quality of the ACC as leverage to get ND to commit?

Neither does Memphis, while Temple brings a more logical geographic fit, gets you into Philly, and brings better academics.

Not for at least 15 years. The ACC GOR lasts until 2036 or somewhere there about. They might consider that in the early 2030s but its highly unlikely any would try to break the GOR before then, and Notre Dame would call them on their bluff if they tried to use the threat of departure.

No. Why?

RE: If the ACC went into PAC-MAN mode
If and when ND did add football, likely any additional add would also be football related for balance. The school would be Football first and if a strong basketball program to boot, it would help even more. Those programs would be from any one of
Texas
Oklahoma
West Virginia
Cincinnati
TCU
Houston

Next tier..........

UConn
Temple
Memphis
Baylor
Navy

Cardfan: I'd prefer WVU or Cincinnati. Doesn't create "island", encroaches on B1G, gets WVU OFF their "island".
