Boeheim being Boeheim.....then gets owned by Greensboro
http://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketb...greensboro

Quote:Suffice it to say Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim is not a big fan of Greensboro, North Carolina, the traditional site of the ACC tournament.

Given a soft-toss question after his team's loss to Miami about playing in his home state of New York, Boeheim instead used the opportunity to riff on why the league should not play its future tourneys in Greensboro -- as in ever.

"There's no reason to play in Greensboro,'' he said Wednesday. "The only reason they play there is because the league offices are there, it's always been there and there are like 150 people who like to have meetings. It should not be there.''

Quote:Boeheim -- whose team used to participate in the Big East tournament at Madison Square Garden -- argued that the value of playing in bigger markets is far greater than keeping up with the same old, same old.

"The media centers, the recruiting centers are Atlanta, Washington, D.C., and New York,'' he said. "How many good players are in Greensboro? New York made the Big East.''

The city of Greensboro, replying to a tweet about Boeheim's comments, took a pointed, yet lighthearted approach, tweeting that Syracuse "can lose in the first round anywhere."

Missing from the quoted tweet from Greensboro is this:

Quote:At least it's a quick ride home.

And he is right...play Greensboro no more than 2-3 times a decade...as a concession.

He is absolutely right, which is why the ACC is there to begin with, and the Big Ten is copycating.

But nothing is better than MSG in Manhattan. And I've been been Greensboro and DC for the ACC Tournament.

Well this year two top 10 national recruits, freshmen Harry Giles and Bam Adebayo played in High Point (abuts Greensboro).

I can't even believe that this is still a thing. Are we really arguing that we should play in Greensboro, NC instead of New York City? Really? Why? Because that's what the ACC did in 1976? With all due respect, that is pretty dumb.

The ACC added schools like Syracuse at least in part to have a presence in New York. Why on earth would you then refuse to take advantage of that opportunity you worked so hard to create? Because you don't want to piss off the Ford dealers of greater Mecklenburg County or some other dumb bullshitt?

There are definitely issues that the conference is going to have to deal with but this one should not be one of them. If you want to play there every seven or eight years in deference to the tradition of the conference, I guess. However, otherwise, it should be in New York, Washington DC and Atlanta. However, it should mostly be in New York City.

Yes I am a newbie but I'm also someone who has attended these tournaments in both places and I am telling you it is no contest...at all. It's literally like arguing who was a better basketball player, Michael Jordan or Craig Ehlo?

Greensboro shouldn't even be the number two choice. It shouldn't be in the top five. I just don't even understand the debate here? It is not remotely close.

This season, 111 players from New York City are on Division 1 rosters. That is tops in the country from one city. That isn't including places right around NYC like in the suburbs or across the river in NJ.

22 players from Greensboro are on D1 rosters.

Syracuse and Pitt are lucky the ACC rescued them from that second rate basketball conference and finally moved them into big time basketball.

I guess. All I know is that before we came aboard you weren't making anywhere near this kind of money and you were in trouble... which is why we were added.

In other words, you are not the Sisters of Mercy and this is an equal partnership. Frankly, financially speaking, we have already more than earned our way.

As for the relative quality of the basketball, everyone is entitled to his or her own opinion. However, from a conference tournament standpoint, the ACC does not compare to the Big East tournament on any level. It's not even close – especially when it's played in sleepy Greensboro, where the best restaurants are basically waffle houses.

Go ahead and point out where anybody said that.

No really...point it out.

So what you are saying is we added Syracuse to get one afternoon's worth of exposure? Because as it stands the only way that Boeheim can surpass friggin' Brad Brownell in ACC Tournament wins now is if he runs the table next year as a 10 seed or worse. Brian Gregory has more ACC Tournament wins than Blowhard Boeheim.

That's what Boeheim was arguing about: that playing in Greensboro should not be considered ahead of playing in Brooklyn. I was responding to the original post and the original subject matter.

You are forgiven this time but try to keep up.
