Supposedly, the vote broke with the KY schools (Morehead, Murray, EKU) all being in favor, but all the "no" votes coming from Tennessee-based league members (Belmont was not an OVC member in November 2011). The "no" votes being generally predicated on NKU being a threat to upset the longer-term balance of power in the league (NKU having more $ and resources vs. most schools, and tipping the league more generally toward their north).

I thought that was a short-sighted move then --- and if the day ever comes to pass that Belmont and Murray State move from the OVC to the Horizon (because it's a better league vs. where they are now) --- it will really have been a dumb move.

For those who have wondered if there was proof this actually happened...the president (at the time) of NKU is the one who gave all the details.

So yes, the OVC really did make that decision. I'm WAY happier to see my Norse end up in the Horizon. Much better now and long term. Apparently some of the OVC members saw the writing on the wall. :)

Thanks for providing the link (and confirming my memories).

From a former Fort Thomas, KY resident ........ and from an alum of the only other full D-1 member that has a nickname that starts with the letter "N" ........ NORSE UP!

How fitting they get placed against Kentucky in round one.

Join the bandwagon, there's plenty of room!

Though I think my Norse deserved a 14, it's a nice setup for them. Because, if they lose (even by a large margin), no big deal. It was expected.

At the same time, if they pull off a miracle and WIN...the state of Kentucky won't forget this for the next 100 years.

I'll be there Friday in Indy. I'll be an extremely vocal bandwagoner for the Norse that night. I implore everyone in attendance not a UK fan to do the same!

I'm beginning to believe the conspiracy theories that took UC out of Indy - most UC fans I know have a soft spot for NKU, and it'd give NKU a helluva rooting section against UK. Not that the Norse stand much of a chance, but with a friendly crowd anything can happen.

For those who haven't seen NKU play, enjoy watching Drew McDonald do a little bit of everything, Cole Murray, one of the best 3 point specialists in the country and Lavone Holland, an athletic, scoring point guard who can get to the basket at will.

They are a well coached team who plays tough and doesn't give up on games. They tend to make solid adjustments at the half and have made more than a couple second half comebacks this year.

They are also athletic and deep (they generally play 9 or 10), but sadly, very undersized. I'm not saying they are going beat UK here, but I really do think they have a chance to make this game a lot more interesting than everyone seems to think.

My sentiments exactly. I do not believe it will be your standard 2/15, 40-point blowout, even if it is Kentucky.

UC, Xavier, and Dayton always, but at one time Miami was the class of the MAC as well. Not to mention others like IU and UK not unbelievably too far down the road, but they're not exactly under-the-radar programs.

UC, XU, Dayton, UK, Louisville, Ohio State, Butler, NKU, Wright State, Miami (all within 100 miles within Greater Cincinnati).

IU, Purdue and Akron just a little further out. We don't get the love that other regions in the country get, but we have some fine basketball region. I've always wanted an early season tournament, but egos have always prevailed and it hasn't happened.

You are absolutely right. Although as a homer, I would say the epicenter is about 100 miles to the southeast. 04-cheers

Using Louisville as the epicenter, within a 200 mile radius of Louisville, you can find UofL, UK, IU, Purdue, Cincinnati, Xavier, Ohio State, Dayton, NKU, Purdue, Vanderbilt, Tennessee, and teams who do make the tournament regularly such as Western Kentucky, Murray and Morehead States.

Plus of top ten NCAA tournament markets, you will also find Louisville, Cincinnati, Indianapolis, Nashville, and Dayton
