Winning the CAA tourney in a year when a significant portion of the teams weren't even eligible doesn't equate to success for me, personally--others may differ.

We give football crap all the time when we're playing CCSU, etc.....MBB was certainly no better, and IMO significantly worse.

While the basketball OOC schedule was not good it was ranked 211 out of 354 containing a bunch of middling teams and no strong teams.
The football team did play UNC , but 2 of 3 OOC games were against teams in the bottom 10th percentile of Division 1.
That would be like JMU scheduling 8 of their 12 OOC games against Longwood who is the only opponent that was in the bottom 10th percentile in basketball this year.
I didn't count the Div III E Mennonite game since the NCAA doesn't count that in official stats. With that 2 of 13 OOC were against the bottom of the barrel.

Both need work for sure. Football scheduling needs even more work.

I'm all for getting better competition on the MBB schedule, but until we can beat Longwood, Radford, High Point, and Appy all in the same season, what's the point in moving up a notch? I'm disgusted with the whole program and right now I need to see us win. I abandoned the MBB program after the fifth game this season. Playing a lot of A-10 and AAC schools will look great, but is not going to make me tune in if I know in advance the Dukes will lose. I honestly would like next year to be a lot of local schools like the ones I mentioned above, get us back to winning, then the the following season step up to the plate with our scheduling.

I had very low expectations for this year so I am not upset. I will be upset next year if JMU is not in the top four in the league and does not advance into the semifinals of the CAA tournament.

Can t see us in the top four. Top half maybe if recruits can play right away at this level. That remains to be seen.

RE: Bourne's handling of the Men's basketball coaching hire
I like the hiring of Coach Rowe simply because it was the admin. taking a gamble. Somewhat similar to the way VCU gambled on Smart, Dayton on Miller. It doesn't always work out where you land that "sleeper" but I think Coach Rowe has the makings of being a great coach. He's well know and respected in the AAU circuit, he seems to be a guy kids want to play for, coaches (or tried to coach) a more exciting style of basketball. Brady was/is a good coach but he wasn't going to take a mid-level, mid-major program to the top of the mid-majors.

Next season is a total crap shoot. Replacing 7 seniors is beyond a "rebuilding year" Top 5 in the CAA would be a success. The 18/19 season is likely when we'll have a better idea if he's a keeper.

I think the CAA will be somewhat young next year so that is why I feel JMU has a shot at the top 4. We will have two Seniors, two Juniors and two 3rd year Sophomores. That is six players with at least 3 years of college experience and 3 years of college training tables and strength/conditioning.

I agree, next year's team will go as far as the freshman class can take them. I expect the freshman to play inconsistent which is a trait of first year players so I expect them to be around .500
