No, I'm not talking about Prince.

Counties are increasingly dominated by one party or the other as discussed in the article and shown in its maps.

Dems should be asking themselves how they lost 207 counties that flipped from Obama to Trump in 2016, and stop blaming Russia

You wanna see a stunner of a political map, someone post the Carter v. Ford map of 1976.

I did a triple take looking at that some time ago.

VERY different than today. If you didn't know better, you might think they used wrong colors on most of the states.

correlates pretty well with shifting demographics. Rural counties have aging populations, which tend to be more conservative. Younger generations are going to college and not going back to their rural counties because there are no jobs for them there.

Obviously there is more to it than just that. Dems have neglected rural areas for years and they're paying the price for that, but there are many factors at play.

I have no desire to live around liberals. looks like most people outside of cities feel the same way.

Exactly. The entire thing has damn near flipped, in one generation.

Someone post that map if they would, I can't manage to figure out how to do the [img] thingy.

And yes, I've tried repeatedly... 03-confused

Why would they bother? A county is absolutely meaningless, in politics.

We give votes to people, not land.

Trump carried 16 of Carter's 23 states and almost took Minnesota. The other 6 were Hawaii, New York, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Maryland and Delaware.

Clinton took 13 of the 27 states Ford took. Common for the Republicans were the Plains states-Indiana, Iowa, Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, Montana, Wyoming, along with western states-Alaska, Idaho, Utah and Arizona + Michigan.

I'm pretty sure I live in a purple county so that's fun for me at least.

Honestly the middle of the country (and the mountain zone) turning overwhelmingly red isn't a big deal I don't think as those areas are such low population density that it's a very misleading map. But the parts of upper Midwest, Ohio, PA, parts of New York, etc. turning so red is a big issue for the Democrats.

Too bad people are living into their 90s. A good Bwhahahaha would look good now. It'll be another 20 or so years before these millennials get to be the senior citizens and by that time they'll start realizing that they were wrong when they were young (like most hippies of the 60s) and with age comes common sense and it'll start all over again with those that millennials sired.

Thanks.

No real idea what that actually means, but thanks for posting that map.

How about that map?

Scant 40 years ago, now the entire sphere has flipped. I was actually rather stunned when first looked at this again. Wow.
