WTF happened
I went to SMU's last home game yesterday. The place was electric. the Sr's talked about playing in front of no people when they got there and now the place is packed even with a new coach.
They have not lost at home all year and have been in the top 25 for about a month.
Magic ride part two.
Great coach leaves new coach comes in and jus keeps winning.
La tech is going to finish 2nd in cusa not much falloff there.
I have not watched that much ualr this year but we had the same thing as the above schools. New coach taking over a loaded team.
Wtf happened?
There were plenty of players on this team to finish with 20 wins and a chance to win the conference tournament.
Is it coaching? Is it players? Is it effort?

RE: WTF happened
Injuries cost us a few wins. The rest is on Wes. His team had the talent but he could not channel it properly to hold on and win games that were winnable. Some of those game in which we were competing well and even leading and ended up losing say a lot about his decision making down the stretch. No doubt he s passionate and well liked coach. I hope that Chasse can evaluate his potential honestly and look at all the factors and decide how to approach next year. I have to agree with LRTrojan -- we missed an opportunity to find the absolute best coach in the land willing to come in and continue the success of the program. Chasse decided to give the local man a shot, hoping for the best. Being a Little Rock Man for Little Rock's team has no bearing on your readiness to coach the team to a reasonable record (see Sidney Moncrief). Ok, unfair comparison, Wes is a major D1 assistant coaching veteran and he deserved a shot at a head coaching job. Unlike nearly all his predecessors, we have the best situation with a gutsy AD and a new chancellor when it comes to making smart yet unpleasant decisions. If the revenues start to drop toward Shields era levels I would be shocked if they clung to Wes in spite of it. Wes is a great guy but LR in 2017 was not be the time or place for him to be an effective head coach. What are his contract terms?
But then again there is the Tournament. He is about as bad off as Shields was when he won it in 2011. You never know.

RE: WTF happened
I think we could win a round in the tournament with a great first round effort. If they don't show up and play a pretty complete game they may get run out of the arena. I agree that the hiring decision was not the AD's finest hour. Most of the excitement from last year has disappeared into the mist.

For the record, the current Head Coach at SMU was already there under Larry Brown. Tim Jankovich took the job on Brown's staff as "Head Coach in Waiting" with the understanding he would take over when Brown retired. Jankovich had previous coaching experience as assistant at various places, including Vanderbilt and Kansas.
