I recall (years ago) some researcher penned a study wherein he suggested that men living with women can sometimes have "sympathy periods". They suffer from PMS, the female period hysteria, and mimic the woman's psychological suffering.

I think this is all psycho-babel BS but it does make for something that is likely covered in a university gender studies curriculum.
