What the comment really reminded me of was a speech some guy gave, "I have a dream..."

And that's the problem with cons, always assuming. You assume I am angry at what Ben said but if you would take the time to read my post, you will clearly see I am upset with the poster and his response on what I said about Bens comment.

You see I don't have to go floundering around to find things to make me angry when it is presented to me on a silver plate. And if his speech reminds you of Dr. Martin Luther King then i highly recommend you reread both speeches for a better understanding.

At the end of it all.......kind of a dumb statement to make. We can argue that slavery was common worldwide when this occurred, or that slaves in America were treated better than in many locales. We can even argue that slavery importation to a place constitutes "immigration". We can argue that the decendents of those slaves, Americans now, are on balance far better off than those that remained in Africa. Still, comparing slavery with today's immigration = not the same.

They weren't brethren. It might be the most diverse continent in the world and this was before colonialism. They had no reason to care. Agreed.. Carson, while coming across as intelligent most of the time. Is NOT the guy you want ad-libbing any comments.

He reminds me a lot of Obama in that regard... When he went off his prepared remarks, it often turned into a disaster of a comment. When he had an exact script to follow, you would be about willing to eat out of his hand if you had similar opinions on something.

Whether it was voluntary or not, immigration is immigration. The Soviets forced immigrated a whole hell of a lot of people out of Eastern Europe in 1945-47. Still counts as immigration.

Their descendents are better off here than in Africa.

Should've seen it coming: Obama gave at least two public speeches as President where he described the slaves who survived the Middle Passage as "immigrants". Most recent December 2015.

Reasons as to why you'd disagree? Would you have picked being a slave in Africa over being a slave in America? Be slave to those you were previously at war with or be a slave to those that view you as valuable property, not to mention the ideas of European and Middle Eastern slavery were beginning to reach Africa prior to the slave trade and were beginning to be implemented.

plantation slavery was much different from african tribal slavery. If one had to choose between the two you would be wise to pick african tribal slavery. slaves in africa had more rights, autonomy, and were treated better.

you are comparing a corporatized version of slavery with masters who tried to suck every dollar they could out of a human life verse a type of slavery whose origins was to replace population loss from warfare in a society that can't really be described as capitalist.
