2013. Memphis beat USM in 2OT in Tulsa. A total heartbreaker, still not totally over it.

Ahh yes. I remember Watson made an AMAZING lay up as time expired in regulation to force OT. I've never seen a shot so close to the buzzer as that layup.

Just trying to stay optimistic. Hate these tournaments. Pomeroy says 50% chance. That's probably about right but worrisome odds nonetheless.

You really can't get any closer than this.

Sigh...it's sad to watch those highlights. Not because we lost but because we used to have a respectable bball program.

Yes. Should've been an and-1 based on the pathetic calls they were giving Memphis that entire game but no. We ended up losing in double OT i think.

Yep double OT. Had a lead in the first OT and let them shoot a last second 3 to tie it.

Do you mean the refs didn't use three clocks and the one in the restroom to call it "not good" like the odu-UTEP game. How lucky.

I think the year before that Marshall won 1st game then Tulsa in OT and USM to get beat by Memphis in the finals. Was a pretty gutsy performance winning 3 with some loooong games and going to the finals.

I like that you *optimistically* round up Pomeroy's 49.5% to 50% :)

And I pretty much agree with both of you. MTSU is clear favorite but more likely to end up at-large than auto-bid.
I'm "optimistically" as a Rice fan (and C-USA 2-bid fan) rounding it down to 49%!! (Maybe even 48%!)

(I also think UTEP will be giving anyone in their path more trouble than Pomeroy gives them credit for)

It's unfortunate that we may have to face UTEP again on two fronts. One, they are playing pretty well and yes will give anyone a tough game. Second, in terms of the at large perspective if we face UTEP and lose again the RPI destruction will be too much to overcome.

Running the RPI forecast, if we beat wkcc or UTSA and lose to UTEP we will be anywhere from 43 to 46. I think we are NIT bound in that scenario.

If on the other hand, in the same circumstances we draw wkcc and Rice losing to Rice the RPI is at 39. That's likely a significant difference.

So, as much as MT players would like to avenge the loss to UTEP, we need to be rooting for Rice.
