RE: RPI Watch Thread 3/31
Rice beats FAU which puts USM in 1st place by itself
ECU who is ranked #25 lost its 2nd game of the weekend at home to UConn. Hopefully this knocks them out and allows us to move in and/or up in several polls.
After being on the cusp last week, a win tomorrow puts us at 5-0 on the week and 24-5 overall with a top 20 RPI hopefully.
Tulane won 4-3 for win #2 vs USF on the weekend.

RE: RPI Watch Thread 4/1
I like Fitt, just because last year he said that we have an "awesome fanbase". He also spoke pretty highly of us in the D1 podcast last week.
And yeah, D1's been putting out some good USM stuff here lately. That article on Wallner this past week, long LaTech/USM preview from 2 weeks ago, prospect notebook that touched on several USM guys, etc.

And after today's win (Sunday) it remains that so now let's hope WKU can string some wins together and get their RPI out of the 200s

And looking at other action today ECU got swept at home and finishes the week 1-3 so that should knock them out of their #25 ranking. Also, #23 Houston lost 2 of 3 at unranked UCF and won once midweek so that's another team that could drop out. #20 Ole Miss was swept at home by State but my guess is that State will move in due to that sweep.

Speakin' of Pearl (as in our next game), anyone remember Pearl Beer, once brewed in San Antonio, TX? (Think a "Pearl Beer" is still produced by Miller, but they just kept the name)
OB's favorite beer at the old End Zone was Pearl Light, although we kept buying him Miller Lite 'cause we weren't exactly sure...
The only people who got free beer at the Zone wuz be-u-tiful womern and, O.B., of course...
O.B for President!

RE: RPI Watch Thread 4/1
Our RPI is currently sitting at 23 and we are ranked #17, #21, and #20 in D1, BaseballAmerica, and CollegeBaseballCentral. Don't think coaches poll are out yet. I posted this in another thread:
We need ODU (22-6, RPI 41), Charlotte (16-12, RPI 36), UTSA (14-12, RPI 64), and La Tech 18-10, RPI 63) to keep winning. Another note: UNO has a chance to better their RPI in the next few weeks. They've already beaten LSU twice and have a series vs McNeese State (22) and Texas (66)
We've got some real nice RPI games remaining on our schedule. I think we've got a chance to get into the top 15 RPI if we beat the teams we're supposed to and we win these games:
vs. Ole Miss (56) x2 - one in Pearl and one in Hburg)
vs. ODU (41) series
@ USA (72)
vs. SELA (37) in Biloxi
vs. UTSA (64) series
Wish we had McNeese State on our schedule this year for a mid-week game: they are 19-9, RPI 22 with win's over Missouri State, LSU, and SELA. However, not a team I'd want to play in a regional this year...

I would like to see Charlotte lose out in CUSA play since we don't play them regular season...let them win their OOC games though. With them already having a great RPI though it does help CUSA's perception and in the big picture how much does it hurt other teams because of Charlotte's mid 30 RPI

Tech isn't dead yet, but we need them pick it up. A 4-1 week probably puts them in the top 50 again.
Hoping for 6 top 50 games in CUSA play (ODU and Tech, maybe FAU). Plus 7 OOC (ULL, OM, MSU, SELA).
A 8-5/9-4 record against this group + top 20 RPI/regular season title would put us in position to host.

Kiss of death.

I think one of the biggest reasons I've struggled to get too bullish on USM in the postseason in the past has been its lack of bullpen depth. Well, with Wallner, Sandlin and others, the Golden Eagles have premium bullpen depth right now. This team has all the pieces it needs to do some big things in the postseason. I would predict USM hosts at this point, but we'll see how the rest of the season progresses.

Tech also just got a commitment from JCJC soph Ben Stiglets RHP 7-0 1.87 era 26 k 4bb he also pitched a complete game in the world series championship game last season as a freshman. USM didnt even recruit him. Baffling

Yeah...but the higher RPI teams we play (which is not very high to begin with), don't have very good records, excluding ODU. It could be kind of rough for the next few weeks prior to that ODU game unless our opponents play well. UNO will play some tough teams but they won't get far if they keep losing series to RPI 200+ teams.
Nolan's predictions have us finishing 44-12 and at 29th. You can't read too much into that, at this point, but that does give an illustration of what our schedule is looking like at this present moment.
I'm thinking our RPI will be fine if we win around 40-42 (not counting tournament). If we are above 40 or so, I don't think our lack of Top 50 wins will hurt us. Of course, it is tough to speculate having no idea what our opponents will do.
As much as I hate calling midweek games "important," this is definitely a big game for us against Ole Miss, which will almost certainly end up in the Top 50 again.

We owe FIU a good thrashing after what happened last year.
