Soccer has arrived in Atlanta.

On a brisk and clear Sunday evening in midtown Atlanta, thousands of fans gathered outside Bobby Dodd Stadium decked in maroon and black, tailgating, cheering and singing before the inaugural MLS game of Atlanta United FC. Soccer may be new in Georgia, but the fans have taken to it quickly – the opening game against New York Red Bulls sold out 55,000 tickets

Based on the title I expected this to be about Chan Gailey and Reggie Ball.

I watched it on TV, good showing by Atlanta. Would love to have one here in Louisville. We have a USL team that is 2nd in the league in attendance but they need a bigger place to play. Hoping to build a soccer specific stadium.

Tampa Bay Rowdies want to upgrade too...looking at expanding their downtown St. Pete stadium to 18,000.

Last I heard is that they were looking at 2 sites. 1 is the soccer fields down on River Road & the other is in Portland. They want riverfront. Once it's built, MLS is possible.

Louisville City FC hired architecture firm HOK to design a stadium capable of expanding to 20,000 seats to accommodate a potential jump to first-tier Major League Soccer. HOK's preliminary renderings show multiple video boards as well as a suite level.

There still are 11 groups/cities lining up outside trying to get in ...

Despite three years of frustration and failure at three potential stadium sites (plus lengthy delays at a proposed fourth), MLS still hasn’t given up on David Beckham and Miami. Representatives from both sides continue to talk.

Nevertheless, Beckham’s troubles raised questions concerning the future of the franchise he’s already purchased from the league. Could he abandon Miami for Las Vegas?

The answer is no, unless he were to work out an entirely new deal with the league.

The discounted franchise he purchased under the terms of his initial playing contract is valid only for the city he and MLS agreed upon. That’s Miami. If Beckham wants to pull out, it’ll cost him dearly. In addition, he’d have to want to go to a city that interests MLS

The league’s board of governors is scheduled to meet April 24 in Colorado Springs. Expansion is always on the agenda. A few days ago, MLS probably figured it had three teams to award. Now it’s four. And if Beckham can’t work things out, the board may decide it’s five.

RE: Went to Bobby Dodd and a MLS Match Broke Out
With Dodgers co-owner Todd Boehly joining David Beckham’s Miami soccer ownership group, they’re in good shape financially and not looking for more investors. The next hurdle, which shouldn’t be a big one: acquiring Miami-Dade County-owned land, where a slice of the proposed Overtown stadium will sit, for upwards of $10 million.

Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos Gimenez told WQAM’s Joe Rose: “We’re ready to go. We’re waiting for the league to award the franchise. We can get our part of the deal done within 30 days.”

Meanwhile, in MLS, Atlanta United is averaging a league-high 49,000 fans in its inaugural season.

RE: Went to Bobby Dodd and a MLS Match Broke Out
Hijacking this thread for an unrelated/semi-related second.

A couple buddies an I are going to the ATL UTD game vs Columbus Crew SC in June. Any gameday advice or things to do? Advice for getting to Bobby Dodd Stadium? MARTA from Buckhead vs driving and parking there? Things to do around the campus (i.e. Supporter group events, new "traditions", places to grab a beer/food, etc.)?
