MyBB Style of Basketball - Your Preference
I watched Florida Gulf Coast (FGCU) win the Atlantic Sun Tourney yesterday and enjoyed their up and down, energetic, pressing style. I fully realize there are many other valid ways to win and the limitations of the full throttle method, but it was entertaining to me.

What is your favorite style?

Believe it or not, we can agree - the winning style is what I'd like.

My first thought: Winning - I don't care as long as we win.

But I realize that's not what the OP was getting at.

If I had my druthers, I'd like the L'Ville, WVU, etc style of play... Defense being a non-negotiable. Tough, hard-nosed rebounding...

But if we made the Sweet 16 every year by running a 1-3-1 zone and the Princeton offense, my happy a$$ would buy tickets just as quickly.

RE: Style of Basketball - Your Preference
I've always loved the fast paced, pressing, pressure D style of Louisville, VCU, Nolan Richardson, etc.

Never been a real big fan of the NBA style but I sure do love watching SMU. they run an NBA style offense. EXCEPT when they're putting it on our Tigers!

Take a win over style, but certainly love seeing fast paced action. I had the '08 Championship game on DVD that I watched every so often and they ran a very fast paced (random) style. Very very fun to watch.

I saw a talented HS coach with far inferior talent slow a game down and milk clock. It was a brilliant game plan that left his team in the game. It was a game that otherwise would have been a 30 pt loss but he managed to have his team down 4 in last 2 minutes. The other team hated it obviously. But what nailed me was that HIS team hated it. HIS parents yelled at him to cut it out. HIS players hung their heads. Sometimes coaches don't get credit just because the game plan is boring. Very interesting.

And.....I think fast paced, guard oriented teams fare well in tournament style play. Teams like Virginia and Wisconsin are well coached and play very smart basketball but never seem to do well in tournament settings like teams such as UNC, Villanova and Louisville.

Short answer: give me a fast paced transition team with hard core pressure D

"Juco coach restaurant salt shaker motion with no room for a back to the basket center" I think was the name of it. But it requires players who can break down a defense and who actually want to compete.

And like most, I like a winning style as long as it doesn't look like UCLA 2006. I'd just as soon lose as watch that.

I like the defensive grind it out style. Oddly enough, I also really enjoyed the Loyola Marymount teams.

Just about any Cal team will be entertaining-whether its dribble/drive or high/low or variation of old UCLA sets. His team will play DEFENSE. That is number one with me no matter what kind of offense you run.
