Too bad.
Spike is playing 12.9 mpg for Purdue.
Averaging 1.9 ppg, 1.6 rpg. Shooting 17.6% from three.
All which are higher totals than our 10th, 11th, 12th and 13th scholarship players - Jake McDowell and the ghosts of Bret Mundt, Jewell Burton and Boogie Lyles.

Surely you're not advocating that hindsight says we should have wasted a scholly on Spike? I get that we have the scholly to give, but still. That's a tough position to defend.

It's just messing around, amigo. No position to defend.
But, since you seem to think there's no question to it at all, I'll frame one for you - nobody is better than somebody?
Didn't you just defend/support/whatever term you like having an ineligible JC walk-on a few weeks ago as valuable practice body?
Now, shorthanded as can be, we don't want a guy with DI experience who can get 12 mpg?
I just never get the "not Memphis good" line of thinking from some of you, especially on a one year rental.
Another player is another player. If that player can spell Martin or Markel or KJ for 2-3 minutes a half, it all means something.
IMO

In Tubby We Trust.
I trust Tubby in his ability to develop players and in-game coaching. Recruiting remains to be seen.

Difference in walk-on vs scholly, amigo. There is one. Bad practice to throw schollies around to subpar players just because you have them.
Now if this was back in the summer and you had 3 to give and wanted to take a flyer, go for it. But to sit here now, using that hindsight and all...no way.

Shoot, he had six to give in the summer (and that's before Marshall left).

I guess so.
I'd still take a flyer...in hindsight...one year rental and open spots for a guy with DI experience.
But that's me...I still think Kessee is going to have a good game before the season ends.

Purdue on CBS.
Goes to show why you can't just look at numbers.
Albrecht would've helped.

I know I'm just a dumb stat guy but he's averaging 1.8 ppg and shooting 20.8% from 3.

Yep.
I watched him play meaningful second half minutes in a road win over an NCAA team.
Drew a foul, made an assist, brought the ball up several times, played solid D.
*shrugs*
