Basketball coaching moves
Some of us have some coaches who might be valuable commodities during the offseason. I guess it's never too early to look at the various coaching moves. Missouri fired its coach today.

Why? UTEP has like a 240 RPI. That's awful and not good enough for UTEP basketball. This is likely going to end up being UAB's worst RPI team in history and we will be around 190-210 when the season finishes.

RE: Basketball coaching moves
Tony Benford at N Texas is 62-95
12-13 -- 12-20
13-14 -- 16-16
14-15 -- 13-17
15-16 -- 12-20
16-17 -- 8-22

5 years at N Texas and no winning seasons and 1 break even season. With N Texas not even in the CUSA touney makes me wonder a little, they could have fired him today. If he isn't let go by the end of the conference tourney Id be very skeptical if I was a Mean Green fan then.

Anthony Evans at FIU is 51-76
13-14 -- 15-16
14-15 -- 16-17
15-16 -- 13-19
16-17 -- 8-24

The 1st 3 years don't look horrible but the win total has went down each year.

Michael Curry at FAU is 27-63
14-15 -- 9-20
15-16 -- 8-24
16-17 -- 10-19

Ive always said a HC should get a full recruiting cycle before he is fired but 9, 8 and 10 wins really just doesn't cut it.

These are the 3 coaches I think should be fired, I say only one of them gets the axe though and it wouldn't totally shock me if all 3 aren't back. Both FIU/FAU don't seem to interested in basketball to much to really care if they are good or not, so why change.

I could see a few coaches going other places, maybe Mike Rhodes at Rice, Eric Konkol at LA Tech and Steve Henson at UTSA get snapped up by other schools.

I wonder if FIU saved Evans' job with the win yesterday? Although one has to wonder how they can improve next year with the four top scorers being seniors. FAU has a younger roster and was much more competitive during the year - I doubt they make a change.

The FAU squad quit on Curry in Huntington this year. They were down 11 with 5 mins to go and just didn't try after that. If he survives he will be going into his 4th season trying to still build a roster mostly on transfers and JC kids. I don't see that a formula for success.

And if the win vs UAB saved Antony Evans, he is the luckiest coach alive then. No way should 1 win save your job when you don't even make the tourney.

RE: Basketball coaching moves
I believe Evans has one year left on his contract so having him come back without an extension would be unlikely as it would be very difficult to recruit. It does happen in some cases but is unusual.

ETSU is a better job right now. Forbes will most likely have better offers than N Texas. My opinion N Texas will need to go after an asst coach or maybe a low level DI/DII setting head coach.

I wonder if UNT would consider hiring Johnny Jones back after he is let go from LSU. Jones did a good job at UNT for many years before leaving. I wouldn't be surprised to see Jones back at a CUSA or Sun Belt school (maybe FIU or MTSU) next year.

I would hope UNT could aim a little higher than Jones

Jones done better than decent at UNT. He was 190-146 and took a job at LSU with a lot more expectations. He done a decent job up until this year in Baton Rouge but then again decent isn't something most SEC schools look for.

Although I believe in the Confederate Railroad song "When You Leave That Way You Can Never Go Back". I think hiring a coach that left or you fired once before is a disaster waiting to happen.

Evans should go at FIU. FIU could do worse than Johnny Jones. He deserves a hard look.
