Totally agree. These awards are a joke. They lost by 50 at Duke and by 30 at Syracuse and are in the bottom half of their league. A few nice wins don't make up for everything else. If anything, this is bad for JP. It raises his expectations with GT fans. They'll soon realize he can't improve on this. There will be no Sweet 16s and probably only one or two NCAA invites.

But lets be realistic...This is based on everyone thinking that G. Tech was going to suck...

Okogie came in and was a much better player than his ranking and Lammers played well...

Gtech has the same record of the coach who was fired in conference and a worse record overall

Adding to your post...I saw Okogie being interviewed and they asked him did josh convince you to stay and honor your commitment, he said no, he simply wanted to play at GT. Secondly, Ben Lammers is a prime time big man. The combo of Lammers and Okogie is a nice deal to walk into. The previous coach that got fired was the one responsible for both Lammers and Okogie. Lastly, he got that award for three victories. Yes they were great wins. But his record sucked like you mentioned. His record was like the records he was getting here after cusa.

Josh should get a ton of credit for Lammers
I disagree 100%. No way josh had anything to do with the player Ben Lammers is. If that was the case he should have done that with Tarik and Austin or any other player not named DJ. You can have that opinion if you want to, I respectfully disagree.

Pathetic.

I think you're pathetic that you think my view is pathetic. And at least three times I stated...you are free to have your opinion. I didn't say to macgar that his views were pathetic. I said we can agree to disagree. If that's not good enough for you too bad. I do know this, if you think josh pastner made Ben Lammers a premier big man in the acc, you are nuts. I gave him credit for having his team ready to play, motivated, and his players buying into his vision. But to say he is the reason for Ben Lammers playing like King Kong, sorry nope, no way.

Hey now watch it, you can't have this opinion, you may be called pathetic.

Being a great coach with great players. He's very good friends with Memphis fans and a Hall of Fame coach.

Proper Preparation Prevents Poor Performance

I will say, though, he was playing with house money this season. He was front and center telling everyone how bad they might be. So, he couldn't really fail. At some point, he'll still have to produce a consistent winner.

Give him a break.

Every sportswriter in ACC country, let alone the nation, was telling everyone that Georgia Tech would be bad, may win a game or two at most.

He is well. He did well several seasons here too, unfortunately not well enough and with his last two mediocre seasons and player losses, even if now we realize just maybe the problem was with the one particular UVA kid and not the coach, and it was time for him to go.

And he did, and did very well

Congratulations Josh.

Keep Dedric, keep from any unexpected player losses here, add a good player or two, and with getting back to the NCAA as a lock, Tubby may earn the same next year.

Or...whine about him like you whined about Josh.

I wasn't whining about Josh in any way. I always liked him, and I wish him well. In fact, I was one of the longer "holdouts" when he was on the chopping block here. I wasn't ready to pull the plug on him nearly as early as most, but when he left I knew it was time like everyone else.

And, nothing I said was false. I simply said I didn't think he did enough to garner the award. He had a solid season, and I'm happy for him. ACC COY? In my opinion, no.

The guy at FSU ought to have gotten it.

It's not "Rookie Coach of the Year".

He can fly under the radar somewhat, say & do outrageous things without getting a lot of notoriety. And maybe he's matured some too - and he hustles as a recruiter. Could also be a reflection of the environment surrounding Memphis Tiger BB too - unrealistic expectations, feelings of entitlement by Memphis area elite BB recruits, toxic admin environment, etc, just saying maybe.........and not unpredictable given the high level success Memphis was enjoying when Calipari left for UK.

All of the above. Putting Pastner in place here was like lifting Opie from Mayberry and dropping him into a ghetto environment in a pair of
Dockers and an Izod shirt. He also should never have tried to be there friend. Just a bad match all the way around. He is in a much better situation in GA. and I wish him well even as I hate how he nuked our beloved basketball program. It may take years to recover.

Losing record in conference get you the COY?
