RIP Huey Keeney
His obituary in Tyler paper- and imagine in Chronicle. Past President of R association. His punt versus Tulane is still 2nd longest in history at 85 yards in the air. Jess Neely said his punt at Kyle made it so quiet you could hear a pin drop and in 1947 he punted an Orange bowl record number of times and scored the only touchdown in an 8-0 victory over Tennessee.
Saddened by his loss and losing those of Rice teams that competed on National stage. Just wonder if some kid now would read that obituary and ask his Dad what happened to Rice, just as I did when pouring over SWC records and asking my Dad what happened to Austin College, Centenary, Southwestern(Georgetown) all who played most SWC schools into the 40s, and I guess made the choice to abandon big time sports for some reason or the other.

RE: RIP Huey Keeney
Southwestern went NAIA and was nationally prominent in baseball, basketball, and womens volleyball in the mid 70's until about 1990, when they went DIII with Red McCombs as chairman of the BOT. I had been the SID for almost 20 years and resigned the day they went DIII. Southwestern brought back football 4 years ago and is a pretty good DIII team. To this day the decision baffles me, as they now spend more $$ on travel than we used to spend on scholarships and we beat UT a couple of times in baseball.

RE: RIP Huey Keeney
Huey Keeney was my first favorite Rice player in 1947. My first two heroes were Stan Musial and Keeney.
