Toledo could help in football (nice possible rivalry for UC)...
Basketball, well, we're getting there...

Well I do believe that to an extent. I do think adding Army and Air Force adds value to the AAC and gives the conference an identity that it currently lacks. I don't know about any political clout---but I do think it would add to the AAC media value---and that is the goal right now.

I do think a nationwide "best of the rest" conference is probably the best vehicle to maximize the earnings potential of that top group of G5 schools. Its unique, offers the largest footprint, and ties together the largest fan bases in the G5--so, I don't think there is any real reason to think its not the best configuration for generating media value at the G5 level.

That said, adding Wichita, Dayton, and VCU to build the AAC into a true basketball power conference works well too. Right now, Id do that and I wouldnt add anyone to football unless BYU, Army, or Air Force is available. Being the current best G5 in football and a true power conference in basketball should yield a pretty respectable media value in the next negotiation. That work for now and leaves the league a great deal of flexibility for future moves.

Most times people advocating this will in fact attend exactly zero away games out west if it happened.

Yeah, because a school making 40 million in a conference founded in the 1800s is TOTALLY going to join a 4 year old conference, whose teams don't even make 4 million and said latter mentioned conference, which is trying to gain back it's power designation, is TOTALLY going to add a football nobody like Texas State; get a grip, you sound like Homer...smh

Not worried about the pitiful payout that was negotiated when the conference was in survival mode.

The gains made since that time in performance and growing an audience have created some unique opportunities to evolve the membership and identity of the conference in preparation for our next contract.

IMO, the conference needs to adjust the membership to reflect the other basketball superconferences. Wichita State, VCU, and Dayton, increase value for the AAC in the aggregate.
This.

Aresco was with ESPN in the 80s/90s and then CBS. Total experience in those 2 networks about 28 years. A major player in the sports television business. Compare that background to certain other commissioners out there.

AAC biggest challenge yet IMO is keeping this league intact before its next TV contract... The sky is the limit for the AAC, if it can add 1-3 good solid basketball programs there's no reason why Mike Aresco can't ink this league a worthy $$$ tv deal.

Adding 1-3 good solid bball programs to this conference adds zero additional $$$$. Aresco knows this, and so does most everyone else.

Big East makes $4 million each with a bunch of small private schools. To say they would add zero is premature at best. The question is if our tv partners want more and quality inventory.
